they may have welded r&d and early batch items. but lasernut was full production for them. why additions like hoops took more time, they threw those on production units in house.

lawnchair was there for a r&d pre-production bumper, he got the first one. so this supports my answer. i also know this for a current fact as there is shippable completed product frozen by the chapter 7 sitting ready to go at lasernut currently (awaiting payment of corse). have some fun with that.

I’d be willing to take the cad/design files for the item I ordered and a single use production license in return for my deposit I’ll likely never see again.

Even if the business was run poorly, the product was still good.

I think this is a fairly decent way for Pelfreys to get some semblance of closure and it would mean a great deal to many of the customers that will never receive what they ordered.

It’s also better than nothing, since I paid via ACH not CC or PayPal, and who knows what Wells Fargo will be able to do. I’m hopeful since I filed on the 5th for my refund, and they filed for bk on the 6th.

I sent both Pelfreybilt and Lasernut messages about this via Instagram.

they are large volume machine shop. if i were them i wouldnt go beyond shipping completed product. dealing with customers is not always fun. we want custom tweaks and additions, we look for blemishes and issues and want matters resolved. they would lose money spending time on all of that, why they are more contract manufacturing than single sales.

It takes 2 minutes to email a cad file. Not asking them to cut/bend/weld anything

There used to be a thing called debtors prison in a country we successfully separated from.
but it sank because of poor design, not because of lifeboats or related regs, which follows the analogy I was making. Bug your tragic point is well taken.

I’m with Wells Fargo also, but filed on the 8th. I called on the 6th (not knowing that was the day they filed) and Wells Fargo said I should be able to get my money back even if they file for bankruptcy so who knows... best of luck though pal!

oh the cad is going into the chapter 7 pot. you lawyer can maybe cut that deal. but now you are talking about a one off bumper from a respectable machine shop (not a buddy with a welder), that is pricey. you could prob buy a set for the same price from a existing vendor that has not gone under.

and to be completly honest, their designs look cool, but there are major issues once you take them on some real trails. i had to replace all my pelfrey over time from damage. so maybe another vendor isnt the worst idea for a starting place.

Guys.. you can go online today and have a bumper paid for and shipped to your home a week later. That’s part of the marketplace.

The other part of the marketplace is less Walmart, and more personal. Lead times are longer, cost can be more significant, there may even be hiccups and issues after the sale that need sorting. That’s what we pay for.
Pelfreybilt is a prime example - you can buy a bumper anywhere, but you can only get a Pelfreybilt bumper from Pelfreybilt. That’s the buy in, and that’s what validates the cost, wait time, etc.

The market doesn’t need to change at all - if you want in stock items at all hours of the day, you can get it right now. If you don’t, you have your pick of a number of excellent vendors with excellent products. Is there risk? Of course. Anytime you offer someone a dollar, you’re risking that dollar. Makes no difference what you’re getting in return for it, even Toyota will be happy as a pig in shit to sell you a $35k truck that turns out to be a lemon you end up returning.

It is not feasible or based in reality to expect cottage gear industries and the vendors therein to operate with the same overhead and expense as companies that failed trying to do just that. The big, Walmart type businesses can do that (or can they, All Pro?).

The little guys who keep the lights on with passion and product are by far the best to do business with. If someone isn’t proud of their products, they’re not made with investment of anything but dollars.

Keep an eye on vendors who have felt the Pelfrey wave so hard (with zero involvement) that they’ve reinvigorated their customer bases and non-customers with their future plans, transparency, honest discussion, etc. They’re taking steps to mitigate bad press when they don’t even have any.

Pelfreybilt never uttered any of that, and when they did, they said fuck you.

Support whoever you wish, whether that’s with inherent risk or not. If you want an in stock item, buy it. Just don’t cloud that option with the expectation that that’s how business should work and should operate. It’s completely unrealistic.

I can understand the knee jerk reactions, but they’re just that.

    Sorry, quoted wrong post.
This is very good info. For example Visa is 120 days beyond when the product was expected to be received up to 540 days beyond the original transaction. More the reason to use a credit card for these long lead items.

Tyler used to work there, started pelfreybuilt out of it while still working there. Left the company and moved to their own shop and went full time with pelfreybuilt and lasernut still made everything as they did when the company started. hope he can get his old job back, sounded like a good gig.
