Looking for chain recommendations for 17 TRD Off road... 265/70-16. It doesn't look like there are many options. Right now I'm looking at the zt741's cause I can get them cheap. Want to buy two sets, front and rear. But have heard cables don't do as good as chains. Any one have personal experience.. what are you running?

Cables don't perform as well as chains but they are much smoother to drive with and don't require a lot of clearance. I run cables on my wifes AT jeep tires and Chains on my Tacoma MT tires.

Don't have brand preference, but I run cables just because they are quicker to put on. I have had to use chains maybe 3x in my life so I don't need anything super heavy duty.

    Aaron:

You'll note in the manual that it says not to put chains on the front. If you stick your head under and take a look, you'll understand why. There is little-to-no room.

I've never owned a set of cables so perhaps they'll fit. I tried my old V-Bar chains from my 2007 SR5 and they didn't fit my 2016 TRD OR. So I bought a set of these: http://www.etrailer.com/Tire_Chains/Titan_Chain/TC2828CAM.html

I have yet to see if they fit. When I do, I'll put them in the chain box and hope to never need them.

Chains forever. Don't run them in the front. If you intend to use them don't buy cheap. If you are buying them because its the law then cheap is probably ok.

Those autosock traction covers look interesting... can probably run those upnfront with chains in the back, but pricey.

Thanks for all the advice... especially about the no chains up front.. saved me some doe and wasted time.. I went back and looked through the Manuel... had no idea.. I'm mainly buying them to get me through certain check points in big bear and Yosemite.. but if I actually need them I want the best I can get...

These are probably what I'm gonna end up with... thoughts?

Those should be fine. I personally run glacier chains (similar). CO doesn't have chain laws for POVs so its basically chain or die on some of the passes.
