My wife and I love the looks of the 2016s but financially would rather buy in 2017 if they aren't changing things up. does anyone know if they are making changes to the body style? I'm afraid they will ruin them like they did the tacomas this year.... so glad I got my Tacoma in 2015. Anyways, if they are changing the 4runners we will probably pick one up ASAP. If I can wait another year I would prefer that.

I'm not as concerned about the body restyle as I am about the potential changes with the transmission/engine combo. And if it will remain a BOF.

I'm always googling 6th gen T4R and haven't found much info.

It (or version of it) sells decent in the US & world wide but with more restrictive EPA requirements I'm concerned about its life span at least in its current form.

If they change it's BOF status, the world will certainly implode.

I'm with you on that... TM already has unibodies that compete in the mid size SUV/crossover segment so not sure it would make another one. I did catch some story of questionable reliability recently saying it will continue as a BOF but with a 3.5 D4-S style engine but with more hp & tq than Tacoma. It's heavier so I'd say it needs it...and off course there's a ready version in the Lexus RX with a 6 speed. I could believe it. Might push me to a Tundra or Sequoia if that happens...not sure I'm down with a GX.

If it gets the 3.5 it better have a hair dryer attached to it.

If it gets a 3.5 it will be worthless!
I bought a '16 Tacoma and it is a pile of crap. After 6 months and 7 trips to the shop it's getting traded in on a trd pro 4Runner

some of this, a little of that

I'm in the same boat, I'm just not sold on the new tacomas so I'm going to look at some 4runners this weekend. I'd like to hold out for a 2017 but I'm getting a little worried.

You are going to be so happy. The 4runner is such a nicer driving vehicle.

I am thinking of trade in my taco for this same model.

How much did you pay before tax and fees?

    Thanks

The Tacoma had major transmission issues, constant shifting and trans overheating. The 3.5 was severely underpowered in a normal rpm range for a truck (no low end torque at all)
It was kinda fun in the higher rpm but overall a shitty truck motor.
I've put 11,000 miles on the 4Runner without a single complaint.
The Tacoma on the other hand was in the shop constantly in 10k miles.

I got lucky and was able to order mine exactly how I wanted, I had them delete everything and got the base trd pro
$41,850 sticker. The other dealers were adding a $6000 fee on top of sticker.
So I was happy to be able to even get one at sticker price lol.

There is no doubt that I would buy another one.

I had the same experience. Test drove a Tacoma TRDOR AT and wanted to like it, but just didn't.

Bought a 4Runner TRD Pro instead. A lot nicer to drive, and to me the 4.0L engine was much more responsive than the 3.5 in the Tacoma.

Maybe I'm just excited that I don't drive a Civic anymore, but my 2017 Tacoma Limited seams to ride just as nice as my wife's 2014 4Runner.

My wife's 04 4Runner drives waaaaay nicer than my 05 Tacoma with Icon suspension. It's always been a nice riding vehicle. It's just a shame Toyota stopped putting a V8 into the 4Runner. :pout:

I just drove a trail premium.......wow what a difference in drivetrain. The 4Runner is my next new car.
