Yeah I think this is the way to go.

The dip stick is also super hard to read!

Very hard to read with clean oil! Just pour in 6, know that its somewhere in the correct range, then i check the oil a week later once its easier to read.

I aim for half way-ish point on the mark. 6qts is good enough.

6 qts + 7 oz brings mine right up to the full mark. Just putting in 6 qts and moving on is just fine but my OCD won’t allow that. It’s a burden I must bare.

    I get you.

I had 6 quarts of 0w-20. I had an open bottle of 5w-30 and used that to fill the oil filter. So I think I'm close.

You do not drain the filter first?

I usually do not. I did when I changed it at 4,500 miles. Then after the dealership had mine for toyota care services the metal disc cover had always been on too tight that turns the whole filter cover off and I've never been successful in getting it off once off the truck. I did get a metal housing and only put that cover on it hand tight this saturday so next time I can do it with the motiveX drainer thingy.

I also buy my oil in 5 quart jugs. I use this oil pitcher thing to measure out my oil.

If you remove the filter housing just enough to dribble out slowly. the oil will not fly out and splash. Why do you have to measure? The container shows how much is in when full and has markings on the side if you just pour out some of it.

Even with a spare handle on the side of the oil container, the angle on the fill hole requires careful control. Your idea seems to allow better tipping-control of the oil-container and less risk of the oil slopping out of the filler neck.

A "basic funnel" sits at an angle and can splash if poured too fast. Motivx sells a "special funnel" that corrects the external angle to "straight up" and they claim sits securely in the fill neck.

Whatever works for each person ...

I use Havoline simply because it comes in a easy to use 6 quart container. The Lexus uses the same weight oil but calls for 7.7 quarts, thus I use an 8 quart container to pre measure things so I can easily pour it in the crank case in one shot.

I actually have the MotiveX oil change kit of tools. The funnel that came with my kit does NOT make the opening straight up. It still has that weird angle. With it screwed in and the pitcher I can direct all the oil into the clear neck part of the motivX funnel in one pour with no mess at all and it's the correct amount. With the motiveX funnel using the jugs the oil came in it was always a little bit of guessing on the amount as I'd have one with some odd amount in and a full one. Plus I'd need a second $2 funnel for in the fancy motiveX funnel to make it straight up so it doesn't splash out when I pour too fast and make a mess. Happened the first time I used the motivX stuff.

I'm not a rocket surgeon but filling oil isn't difficult.
With MotivX tools just screw their "funnel" into opening.
Use another funnel inside MotivX, cheap $2 works fine, if you want to make pouring easier.
You know how much is in a full container as it's marked.
If you need more for the fill just put whatever you need in the now empty container. It has quantity markings on side.
    Jeesh .
It's actually easier to do than all this explaining.
For those that don't get it.. slow pouring stops splashing.

Yes, you aren't wrong. Do it that way if it makes you happy I'll do mine. For what the MotivX kit costs and what the fancy funnel cost separately. ($25) It should the cone of the funnel shouldn't point nearly 45 degree angle. It should sit vertical. Their design for the Tacoma filler wasn't very good.

If you can’t pour oil from a 5 quart jug into the Motiv-X funnel without needing a second funnel and or splashing the oil all over the place…you’re pouring from the from the wrong side of the jug.

I stopped being surprised at the level of incompetence of the average person long ago.

Arguments will be presented that there is no wrong side to pour from, further indicting the truly ignorant.

How is there a "wrong" side from a 5 Quart jug? Would the side you pour from logicly be the side opposite the handle and grip on the jug? I get with the quart bottles the way you are actually to pour so they don't Glug is opposite of what most people do. I guess I'm Ignorant.. good thing is it's bliss
