Changing to syntheic oil

    I didnt see that. Im just courious as to what Pennzoil is useing for additives, and what the life left is at around 4000 miles. WIth the Mobil 1 @ 3000 miles, my last test was 37% used up. Would almost make a 10,000 mile change interval. And the metals in the oil were Really low. Cant remember the #'s and I cant find my print out, wich means, the wifey threw it away. :cool:

    Cool, I hope you continue to have good luck with it. Im not really looking to get into an oil debate, but Im really not a fan of Pennzoil.

    well, it was on toyotanation a while back(i never really go there anymore.......tw is way better.....its home man:)!!!). i ran mobil1 also, but changed to pp cause it was a bit cheaper, and walmart was outta mobil1 at the time. still run a mobil1 m1-102 filter though........ good filter there.

    dont quote me on it, but i think you can add an extra half quart with that filter.......or maybe its the m1-209, cant remember. either way, im pretty sure it flows more oil than oem. great filter.

    I just had the dino pressure bled with M1.
    Would it hurt that much to not get all of the dino out?

    Nope. Synthetics will mix well with whatever is left in the engine. :)

    FRAM filters use less filter media, and are made to the Minimum standards. Check out:

    Just checked out BITOG. There is an ass load of info on that site. Basicly what I gathered is that WIX is the preferred brand. Just a better made filter.

    Add N-Fab side steps-debaged,cat-back exhaust from MagnaFlow and a Stage 2 intake system from AFE
    Man I wish I read this thread before I change my oil for this fisrt time. I use mobil 1 and use a FRAM filter.

    i dont think there is much of a problem with the fram filters nowadays......not the tough and double gaurds anyway. just get a different filter next go round if you want to.......nothing to worry about.

    You are right. The old Pennzoil was not a very good performing oil. But now that is is produced by Shell it is top shelf stuff!

    Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
    Has anyone noticed a difference in fuel milage with the switch to synthetic oil? If so, was the cost justified; as in, can it be recouped over the life of the oil?

    I've heard that with all synthetic fluids you will get some improvement, but not much. Synthetic oil will also last more miles than standard oil.

    Undercover bed topper, Nerf style step bars, Python alarm, Ham radio with 250 watt amp and chrome wheel well bling.
    Toyota Ooil changes as taught to me by my cousin the Toyota master mechanic.

    Change oil and filter at 1k miles, use dino oil and an OEM (Toyota) filter. Use the weight of oil recommended for that vehicle, don't vary it. Use dino oil because the engine still needs some break in time. At 1k because the engine is shaving off all sorts of tiny metal particles as it breaks in.

    Change again at 5k miles. Use either a OEM filter or a WIX filter. IF the OEM filter has an anti drain back valve make sure the after market filter has 1 too. At this time switch to a fully synthetic oil, he recommends Mobil1. Again at the viscosity recommended by Toyota

    Continue to change every 5k unless you do a lot of heavy use driving or drive in very dirty conditions.

    I buy my filters thru Shannon at Toyota Offroad parts. If you buy 10 at a time you can get the OEM oil filter for 3.29 each + shipping for my 08 Tacoma V-6.

    I wonder why BMW runs full synthetic oil right off the showroom floor?
