I'd like to change my stock unit/USA Spec setup for an aftermarket deck since I'm upgrading the whole system, however I really hate to use the battery charging of the USA Spec. If most aftermarket head units link to iPods using the headphone jack.... how is everyone charging their units?

I use the iTouch to watch movies on long trips, and would like to limit to one cord out of the itouch rather than two!

Headphone jack does not charge the iPod. It has to be tapped in via power and ground and charged via the iPod dock port.

Maybe I dont understand your question, but most aftermarket decks have an option for an iPod cable...ex http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_500CDA105/Alpine-CDA-105.html?tp=5684

The only thing to watch for is make sure the cable adapter for the headunit you choose is compatible with the generation/type of iPod you want to use. Some dont support newer/older gens.

Thats prolly because she needs an adapter...some newer Gen iPods are switched from 12v to 5v. Google Scosche iPod adapter...in fact here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-passPORT-Charging-Adapter-iPhone/dp/B001HN6CVA

iPod only charges when it has a USB power or tapped into the battery via power and ground wire but hooked up on the iPod dock aka the bottom of the iPod not the headphone jack.
