    Re: New MapLight Mod
Quick question for everyone who has done this mod. Has anyone had issues with blowing the fuse for the interior lights? I have led map and led dome lights so I am wondering if that is why the fuse is blowing. I did everything exactly as described but as soon as I try to turn on the light the fuse goes out....

Let me know if you have any suggestions as to what could be wrong or if this has happened to anyone else if they know why..

    Thanks

Sounds like there is a short going on here. Did you use solder? Check to make sure it didn't come in contact with something it wasn't supposed to...

Yes I did solder it... What could it be coming in contact with?? I soldered it on at the same location where the map lights are (exactly as picture shows,) use heat shrink wrap to cover the diode and male spade connector and wire. Brought it to the dome light screwed it on the silver connection side with the connector and I used heat shrink on that side too..... I'm not really sure what is going wrong...

Not really asked, but thought I'd throw it out there: Did you swap the terminals in the original connector? If this step was not taken, you'd have symptoms similar to what you're experiencing.

And is the diode in the correct direction? Not going to blow fuses, but wouldn't operate as designed.

Another option to soldering (aka: hacking the hell out of your console) you could just get another terminal (the red colored wire) and add it to the plug. This way you can disconnect it if you need to remove the console and it looks professional.

The diode is hidden under the electrical tape.

I did this mod over the weekend... Bought two Sylvannia 886 bulbs and using a Dremmel with a cutting wheel, I simply sliced off the base of the bulb as noted in the picture.

While doing this, I was spreading apart the ends a little to make it fit tighter and snap! broke one... had to go to store to get another and do over. They were out of the 886's - so I went with the Sylvannia 885. This bulb works also. For the tighter fit, CAREFULLY, spread the two ends about .5-1mm and simply insert into the plug like a regular bulb.

    I don't.
I'll have it locked for hours if not days, driving gravel roads between 0 and 50 Mph.

I don't know. I don't see why not, but somebody else with an 09 will have to chime in.

Thanks for the info on the intermittent wiper switch. I have a 2008 Taco standard cab 2wd and hated not having int. wipers. Well I have them now thanks to your post & great pictures. I ended up going to the dealer to get the switch and got nailed price wise but oh well. It took very little time do do and was very easy, thanks.

I performed this mod to my 2010, driver side only the first time and it worked. HOWEVER, once the passenger side was completed several things happened. When the left turn signal was turned on with parking lights on, the right side (both directional and parking lamp) had a pulsing effect. Also, all my instrument cluster lights to include the stereo were quickly blinking in a high-low manner unless the dimmer switch was placed in the "full-brightness" position.

I did the Daniel Stern method and all the wires are correctly spliced and connected.

    Any thoughts?

I was bored at work today, hanging cable tray sucks. Decided since I have the perfect supply of materials and a grinder and bandsaw that I'd make some bedrail tiedowns. The weakest part (not counting the bedrail) is the nut rated at 1200 pounds, and the eyebolts are good for 1550 pounds
"working weight". No more plastic tiedown cleats, fully adjustable, add as many tiedowns as you like.

Thinking of mass producing these, how much would be a reasonable price to charge?
