My check engine light came on 2 days ago, and after consulting the manual I think it is from one of the following two.

It said to first check to make sure you have gas (duurrr) which I did and also to check to make sure your gas cap is on tight. I checked the cap and it wasn't completely tight, I turned it until it clicked. It said that if one of these 2 factors were present, the light would turn off after a few (maybe several) drives.

This was 2 days ago and I have driven the truck about 6 times since then around town, roughly 50km in total and the light is still on.

The other thing I suspect is the truck is not enjoying the weather. It has been going below -50 C (-58 F) for the past 5 -7 days. I have the block heater plugged in but it still doesn't sound too healthy when I start it up. Could the cold have caused the error? Once warmed my truck feels to be running pretty good so I was going to give it another day or 2 to see if it turns off from the gas cap.

Possibly the cold. Mine hasn't done it -40 lately. My work truck did on the way home on Friday then when I pulled into my driveway it died, I restarted and it died again. I just blamed it on the blue oval on the front of the truck! (F350) Hope that POS starts tomorrow.

Maybe the cold- but find a place to get the codes pulled instead of trying to guess what it might be...

There are literally 1000s of things that could have gone wrong- Driving it around and waiting to see when the engine shits itself and dies isn't the way to test what it is.

Pull that code and then comes back and let us know what it is.

Ok thanks I will do that. Although I won't be able to get it into anywhere until next weekend, but I won't be doing much driving until then.

light turned off yesterday. Must've been the gas cap.

Kind of weird that it took so long...about 10 days, 20 or so engine starts, 1000 km and a couple of fill ups.

Same thing happened to me, roughly the same time as yours with the cold etc.

Checked the gas cap to make sure it was tight, unplugged the battery to reset the light and hasn't come on for a few days since.

I'm sure, like anything, they don't like -40. I'm sure we'll have a couple more times to test that theory!
