check engine light need to pass inspection

Is there a thread for CEL codes n what not? I've got one too and am afraid of it not passing next time it needs inspection. Last time I had it checked, it had to do with the cat. Is there a proper way to diagnose the problem when it comes to the cat? Don't mean to thread jack or anything, I just thought this is a good place to continue some CEL discussion.

Here I am looking up Cat converters but I can't find a cheap one that's CA legal... fuckin hippies.

 

Just go to a autozone and have them scan it for free. Then write down the # and tell us what code it is. Then we can help.

 

try cleaning the wheel speed sensor...

 

Remove diagnostic port, no way to scan.

 

FYI if you are in California, Auto Zone WILL NOT scan it for you. I tried. They said everywhere but Cali does it.

 

put in a fake port thats tethered to a car without a CEL.

 

CEL codes are stored and they also have "pending" codes. When they hook up the scanner it will show pending problems

They make sure the light comes on for "x" amount of seconds and then goes away. If the light doesnt come on at start up = fail

 

remote switch.

if you really dont care about the speed sensor, isnt there a fuse to all dash lights? just pop that out before inspection, they never hook up a scanner here, didnt know nc did that, maybe u can get lucky and not get scanned and just pop a fuse out
