Check Engine Light On

Does anyone know how to turn off the check engine light?

 

Sure.

But it's better to have a scan done and see what code turned it on. Something needs your attention.

And the scan tool used should clear the code if you want it to, although it will come back if the correction is not made.

Most parts houses will do a basic scan for free now.

 

Yea, I had the scan done and they said some vacuum hose but I didn't pay the money to chase it down. The truck shows no sign of any issues, runs great.

 

You miss the point though.

You can clear the code/turn off the light by disconnecting the battery ground for a few minutes.

But if you don't fix the problem, the light will just return. Depending on the parameters of the code, it could be immediately or after x number of keystarts and driving conditions reached.

But it will return. So clearing it really doesn't accomplish anything.

 

Oh, I got it. I want a permanent fix, was hoping someone had one.

 

You want a permanent fix to turn off the CEL? If there is a code the light is on, to turn it off you fix the problem. If you turn the lamp off itself somehow you wouldnt know when other more important codes are present.
