So I stopped at Advanced Auto this morning on the way into work. They ran a diagnostic code for me and it says:

    Evap-Emission System incorrect purge flow
    &
Evap-Emission System Leak detected grossly no flow

Any recommendations? The girl that ran it said it may have been the loose gas cap...she did not reset the CEL for me.

It would be better if she had given you the actual codes and not just the descriptions.

    Evap-Emission System incorrect purge flow:
    That is code P0441

Evap-Emission system Lea dectected grossly no flow:
Not 100% sure but I think that would be a P0455 which the correct description for is Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Gross Leak).

I've been fighting these 2 codes for almost 2 months now and I've learned a lot about them. The problem is most likely your gas cap since it started short after you filled it up.

The gross leak test is done when the car is not running and starts only 5 hours after the ignition is turned off. At this point, if your fuel temperature is not below 95 the test starts 2 hours later and if it's still not below 95 then it starts another 2.5 hours later.

So the ignition may need to be off for as much as 9.5 hours for test to be done. That's why sometimes it takes a few days before the CEL goes off after you tight your gas cap.

And for the record................don't panic because is says "gross" leak, what they call gross is actually very small.

So, I hear my problem was probably a loose gas cap...I tightened it and am waiting for the light to reset.....stay tuned.......

If you want to speed up the reset process for testing purposes...You can disconnect the battery for 20-30 mins and it should make the light go out. If it comes back that was not the problem.

Thanks to all for your advice. Once again Tacoma Forum has saved me a potentially costly trip to a dealership or garage!!! I love this place!

Glad you got it solved. I got CheckEngine for a while, it come and goes. If it back on I don't know if I'm able to pass inspection for the tag. In my county I can't get a tag if my CheckEngine is on.
