Check Marks?

I've noticed this since the day I bought it, but it just recently got me curious. My truck has check marks and numbers on most of the relays, wire harness connections, and cab and suspension bolts. Some are made with a Sharpie, others are made with a grease pen. My previous Tacoma didn't have these, but I bought it new from Toyota. This one was purchased used from CarMax. Any ideas?

 

Maybe part of the Carmax inspection process?

 

That was one of the possibilities I had in mind. I was hoping someone else who had purchased from CarMax could confirm or deny that.

I seroiusly doubt that was a carmax check. My guess is it wan an early production run from the factory, and was probably randomly selected for QC sampling, and they went over it with a fine tooth comb. When and where was it built?

 

my 2010 (bought new from the dealer) has the same marks

 

they just state that it is the original part that came with the truck.... i think.. or could be a inspection,

I have some of those marks, not all though. There are no marks on my fuse panel and relays. My headlights have the same orange markings and I'll have to check some of the other components. I'd guess Toyota QA/QC.

 

my guess is it has an electrical problem and they went through everything to try to narrow it down

 

This was the other possibility I was thinking about. It is a Mexico truck with a build date of September 2007.

I'm not worried about the truck having any issues, I'm just a curious individual who likes to know the little details.

 

Mine does not have marks on the fuses/relays, but there are marks on various body parts/harnesses all over the truck.

I second the quality control check from factory. My 2011 has them as well.

 

exactly. my buddy used to work QC at NUMMI for our trucks - that's factory marks during QC

 

I'll have to have a look at mine if there are check marks on the head lights they need to look at them a little better when I first got the truck they were literally lighting the tops of the trees on high beams and people were flashing their lights at me when I had them on low beams.

 

Grease pencil=factory check marks from assembly checkpoints.

Sharpie=somebody else.

Grease pencil marks are common. I would be curious about the Sharpie marks though.

 

Mine does as well, built 2/11.

 

My 2008 had random markings all over it as well, and that was bought new from the factory...
