This specific part (crossover pipe)... yes. That doesn't mean the 2.7L doesn't or won't have it's own gremlin waiting to reveal itself.

The auto has 3.90 gears, but even with 32'' tires as my buddy found out with 33'' ones on his v6 taco, they really hurt performance, and fuel economy. Imo, if the engineers designed these truck to come with tires that size, they would have made gear changes. I learned long ago the engineers usually get it right. Its the bean counters in the front office that screw things up trying to make a cheaper way, or a component to accomplish the same thing.

There is some small evaporation losses over that many miles. So a little isn’t too crazy. But routinely being low is bad.

FYI, dealer is fixing mine as I write this. $850. Not included in warranty coverage (But rear main seal is, which is why I took it in). 2017 automatic. 59xxx miles.

Did they tell you why it's not covered under warranty? Any information on how they are repairing it, like from the top or bottom of the engine?

You guys know that coolant will evaporate over time slowly. The it’s more the water mix in the coolant. You should also be checking the coolant level both when cool and hot cause the level will change. Just cause it a issue Toyota may never have a recall on this. Nissans never done a recall on the timing chain guides on older v6 models and never will this is just a flaw in the car you’ll have to deal with.

They didn't do a recall but Nissan did do an extended warranty as well as pro rated reimbursements for those affected.

I'm with these guys . Coolant will evaporate. I add a few ounces every 6month or so . Literally not very much .

I haven’t been up there to inquire more detail yet. The just said it not included in powertrain. Which is strange, since the powertrain requires coolant.

I plan on really questioning the price since the trans is already out for the warranty. At that point it’s like you say, some coolant and an extra hour labor.

I believe (could be wrong) that powertrain warranties generally cover parts that are internal to the driveline. Yeah, the rear main seal is not quite internal, but that can be argued as it is not replaceable without removal of other parts.

As BS as it my seem, the coolant crossover is an external part.

Just my guess there. I do agree that $800 is insane considering that access available while they are doing the seal.

According to Toyota, pipes and hoses are not cover under the warranty of the truck. The coolant by-pass is a pipe so, it is not cover.
It took me a couple of phone calls to corporate to get the repair approved under warranty.

    good luck

It is said that the pipe can be swapped with the plenum and manifold removed, while still being a beyotch of a job. That would be my approach versus trans removal or tipping the engine, if I ever have an issue.
