Are you saying you were successful in getting it covered under warranty?

I used to be a service writer for car dealerships. Power train warranty is anything that is a internal lubricated component and computers that control power train. A coolant hose or pipe would not fall under that.

17 with 90k. NO bypass leak yet. Hoping it stays that way, but I’m adamant on checking it.

I am used to working on old (1980s) Ford V8s. Pulling the upper intake was never a difficult job. You wouldn't have to disconnect the fuel lines since the injectors were connected to the rails in the lower intake.

Does the 3rd gen taco have an upper plenum that just comes off with 4-6 bolts? If so, what do you think about removing this every other spark plug change for access to plugs and replacement of this pipe at the same time? This pipe is not an expensive part-it does look like access is the issue. If this is something you realistically tackle 1-2 times during the ownership of your truck-you can plan for it and make it a non-issue.

The only time that I have ever needed to mess around with a plenum was on my Dodge Stratus where it sat a few MM over the plugs.

I don't know the real numbers on the pipe failure, but I believe we at least know that it is not catastrophic. So, I would not swap it preventively. Not a horrible idea though.

So far, I had a peek at mine with both a borescope and up close when I did a TOB swap. No intention of a replacement for me.

yes the upper comes off with removal of five bolts - very easy to do and as you note injectors/fuel are easy too. All of this procedure can be found on the Magnuson Supercharger web page as a pdf download for the installation of their SC. Torque specs, diagrams, verbage.... or see post #61 of this topic/thread where I posted the pdf

2016 TRDOR coming up on 140k. I noticed symptoms of low coolant on Friday and got around to doing some checking today. IMO it looks like mine is cracked at the passenger side cylinder bank but let me know if you think otherwise.

2 minute radiator pressure test showed a .5-1 psi drop. A44A768A-3ADA-4642-825D-589F8C2F4BF7.jpg2343619F-7171-4FD7-B3F1-134BB3A4A4F0.jpg

Dropped the skid plate to look for leaks but didn’t see much.

Put the borescope down as shown here BC55008B-8AEB-41ED-BEDF-FA8283CE3DD4.jpg

What does everyone think? For sure cracked? How much have people been paying to get this repaired?

When I had mine done under warranty, the advisor said they would have to either pull the engine or lift the body off. They wound up just taking the upper intake manifold off-they said that's all Toyota would pay for.

Look from underneath with a good flashlight. Drivers side. Just above tranny bell housing. You can see it easy.

I don’t quite remember the exact angle, but keep lookin you’ll find it. It’s like just over the exhaust flange maybe.
