Did you guys pull the high pressure fuel rail? Can see the Dang coolant pipe but still looks like I wouldn’t be able to remove it

I pulled my bypass the easy way, from below, with the transmission removed, and out of the way.

Thanks for the replies from both of ya, the tranny removal does seem like an easy way(other than removal of the whole tranny lol), even the hose clamp and the wiring plug are facing that way, been fighting like a bastard to even get those. Going to assemble and regroup for another day. Don’t want to removal the fuel rail and find out I need parts on the long weekend and be stuck with no truck.

In my case, the transmission was removed to swap some parts and upgrade the clutch. Anytime the trans comes out on these trucks, the bypass should be inspected or replaced as part of the procedure.

Yeah. Even though I was at 80k, I am thinking it was some kind of flaw. Never had a clutch issue in the past with hundreds of thousands of miles.

So what’s the best way to look for this leak? From above or below I’ve got a small lose of coolant I think but get a hot smell. I know our coolant doesn’t drip it makes pink coral.

With a cheap borescope you can view it. See the Products box below.

The shiny, black part will have pink foam visible if there is a leak.

Cool thanks I have a bore scope.
    Back of the intake right?
Probably why PO got rid of it.
Trucks seems pretty sound and I enjoy it so I’ll probably see if my local guy wants do it. His shop is way cheaper and not really something I wanna do.
I’m getting older! Gonna be a pain with the lift unless he drops trans I guess.

Damm your engine if yours in pic is super clean!

Yessir. Thread it down between the firewall and the harness support in front, then wiggle / twist it around until you get a view. You'll have to go in from both sides to see the whole thing.

Don't jump on the idea of replacing it until you can get a good view. But, yes. One method is to remove the plenum. The other is dropping the trans, which is harder to do, but easier to replace the crosssover. I got an even better view of mine (below) when I recently replaced the throw out bearing. Sorry for the blurry pic.

Nah. Dirt and mud just doesn't get slung back there. See the other pic, which was from quite a while before the borescope pic.

So I looked from underneath and didn’t see any pink.
Charging the bore scope to look from the top but so far so good!
Also looked for the timing chain cover leak and that looks dry also!
    Appreciate everyone’s help!

My in service was 8/31/2018 and I got 47k so it may be covered if I find it.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
My 2016 developed the leak… on the floor and lots of dried coolant caked onto the bypass. For those that have dropped the tranny no replaced… was the coolant pipe cracked or just an O-ring issue? Curious what I need to get ahead of the repair.

    thanks!

So if I have the 100k factory warranty on my 2021 Tacoma, is this repair covered? Did not see this question asked in the previous 19 pages.
