    Thank you.

And for anybody who's going to have it replaced by either DIY or independent shop, make sure you order the updated part# 16356-31051. It supersedes the previous version which PN is 16356-31050.

    Good luck

Every time I see this thread, this scene plays in my head. Luckily, still no leak on my '22 (probably junxed myself now though).

Here’s the schematic… impossible to find this online but the dealer sent it to me. $122 from the dealer and will have it in 2 days.

now off to harbor freight for a tranny jack for $129 and were all set.

Seems the problem is the Japanese bolts. Shoulda sourced American/Mexican bolts.

I’m thinking the Japanese bolts are good, the pipe is likely made from Chinesium since it is what breaks/cracks on these.

Here is the O-ring on the pipe going into the center of the by-pass joint, I would replace that, too.

I just had this done at the stealer and if it helps anyone with the parts list, this is what was listed on my invoice:

    16356-31051 - water bypass joint x1
    17176-31130 - gasket, air surge tan x1
    90301-05011 - o-ring x6
    23256-31010 - fuel injector o-ring x6
    23258-31020 - fuel injector o-ring x6
    17177-0P030 - intake manifold gasket x2
    Jug of coolant - x1
Fuel injectors are removed so recommend putting on new o-rings.

Total cost of parts for me in Canadian was $500, total job was $1600 cdn.

I’ve spoke to multiple techs and am trying to see if this somewhat accurate. This mainly, only?, has been seen on 2016-2017 models?

Happened to be under my truck looking at something else and saw the pink buildup on the back of my motor. Took it into the dealership so they could check it out... Over $2,600 to fix! They have to drop the trans! 2016 Taco with 49,000 miles! Out of warranty... F$#K!
Haven't had it fixed yet... Found this thread after the fact. Opened a claim with Toyota...

I would get a second opinion on the quote. Mine cracked at 52k on my 2018 and the dealer removed the intake manifold and replaced from the top. this was a few years ago and pricing was around $1,500. Also, FYI, they would not replace this under the powertrain warranty which was still in effect at the time.

The official Toyota repair method is to lift the cab from the frame, which makes a lot sense. 13.5 hours of labor.

Dropping the tranny is a shortcut, but the coolant bypass is still partially blocked. But a good tech can drop the tranny in less than couple hours with proper shop equipment, without breaking the AC lines.

Thanks to the info on here about filing a claim, I have some good news... After getting in touch with someone with Toyota "Brand Engagement" They ended up contacting the dealership and getting management involved. Turns out they "mis-quoted" the labor portion of my job and the price dropped dramatically, and they ended up fixing it at NO COST to me do to my "Brand loyalty"... I have owned 5 new Toyota products over the years... I had many questions, but only said thank you! Truck is fixed and running great. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease...

Wow, what a happy ending. $2,600.00 to fix a known issue, jeesh.

Just got mine replaced for the second time. 41k miles. Leak was not bad, but I knew to look for it with my fiber optic camera as my extended warranty is about to end.

$1300 to fix, but covered by warranty. They confirmed the first time they did this job I got the updated part, and were now replacing it with the same updated part. Now I have a new rattle under the hood, too, after they did the work. Great. Can't wait to pay for this myself every two years. I kept the old one as I may try the Lexus retrofit myself next time this comes up.

I think it'm probably overdue. Def have the timing chain seep too. Coolant has never dropped much. For what it's worth this truck has been nothing short of awesome. Have a good local independent I'm taking it too later this month.IMG_7836.HEIC.jpg
