Did your Turd Gen have a loose/undertorqued air intake hoseclamp

  1. Nope. Both were relatively tight.

How do you clean the MAF? Never heard of this before. Location and how-to instructions?

    Here ya go.

My build date was 10/15 in Baja. Has anyone had a loose clamp from Texas?

Edit: Made one of them poll things, for science.

All my clamps are tight since I installed TRD CAI. Never checked before.
The above video is for another engine type, looking for directions on our 16-17 tacos.

It's the same process for most cars, the tacoma isn't special. Remove the upper half of the engine air filter box assembly, popping the two latches and backing off the hose clamp that we're talking about in this thread. Now, you won't be able to take this air filter box out just yet. Why? There's a cable attached to it. What's that cable? Your MAF wiring.

Disconnect the plug and undo the latch on the air box to free the box lid w/ MAF from the cable. 2 phillips heads, and remove the sensor. Don't touch it with anything except for MAF cleaner, reference the video. Let dry for at least 30 min. Reinstallation is everything in reverse.

    Google is your friend.

THAT! tiny thing? I thought so but wasn't sure. Have 3600mi on it now, do I need to clean it so soon?

I just wonder if something was really loose like this in @AFMurse2014 truck? Something nobody ever picked up on? This is a interesting discovery for sure.

Texas built, outside was 1-2 turns loose, checking the other tonight after work. If you want it done right, do it yourself! Thanks OP for posting!

Crazy to see so many that were loose, glad I said something in the MAF thread and that Mateo created this thread to bring awareness to others.

Of course you shouldn't really ever NEED to clean it if it was assembled properly and you keep your air filter clean... unless you use an oiled one and then cleaning is more frequent.

But I've never had to do 90% of the things I've had to do on this low miles, NEW vehicle... acceptance is the first step to recovery. We have to assume things were not assembled correctly then attempt to diagnose with the help of Google and TW.... glad you all are here!

So far: 6 months, 12k miles.
    ubolts loose
    ujoints dry
    Warped drum
    Over torqued lugs
    Low tranny
    Low rear diff
    Dirty MAF
    Extremely Loose intake hose
    Suspect Catalytic Converter
    Crappy ECU / fuel maps
    2 transmission TSBs
Cracked windshield first couple of weeks - from turning on the defroster the first time, tons of scratches since
Will swap CPS this weekend just to eliminate that potential source of misses / poor MPGs

4/17 Baja, both tight. Also there was a purple dot on each. Working for a co that did work for big three we would often dot features with a paint marker that were being 100% inspected due to a corrective action.

Seems like we have to go back through the entire truck, check every nut, bolt and fastener to ensure things are torqued and installed properly. Wow. It just makes you wonder what else they fucked up when they were putting these 22,000 pieces and parts together.

That's why warranties exist. Not all 22,000 pieces are assembled correctly and not all 22,000 pieces are made perfectly. Everything fails at one point or another. No point in worrying about it driving yourself crazy over something that may or may not exist

Warranties for trucks like ours don't exist because "everything fails at one point or another". They exist because everything is designed with a safety factor that comfortably allows these trucks to hit 36k without going to complete shit. After that, very few of your 22,000 pieces are covered. After 60k, they've C'd their own A, and guess who needs to know how to troubleshoot their truck?

Yea man thank you. I kind of wrote it off as a fluke when I first noticed it and meant to mention it in the other thread. Thanks!
