Can loan out the hand held to someone with the mag base antenna.

The handheld Midland 40 ch is avail at cabella for $109. Runs off reg batteries, rechargeable or plugs into a lighter socket. Sweet deal for the trails.
Hook up an external antenna and you're good for a couple miles, I imagine.

 

Bring it with you if you would. I might can use it.

 

I believe it is exit 102. Coming from Charlotte you would exit 85 and turn right. McDonalds is on the right. If I am not there when you get there I won’t be far.

 

If it is raining down there like it is here in the Triad area of NC and the trails look the same as that video it's going to be a fun muddy mess! .

 

It's done raining here. Not going to dry out much overnite. It is gonna be a bit sloppy.

Yup- know exactly where it is. Sometime I take that exit for the back way to my house- avoiding Gastonia and Charlotte!
