My precious baby is getting chipped along the rocker panels as I found out today washing her, sort of expected with my tire selection and no mudflaps. I was wondering what you guys do who dont run flaps to prevent this. I was thinking of a 3M clearbra along the panel but heard those yellow overtime, but at least it would protect until then. Pics attached. Open to all ideas as I'd rather not take the lift off lol and cant run mudflaps with 285/70r17s and a 3'' lift. Thanks as always for your input! Zach

    Nice truck.

In my experience there isn't much you can do short of putting another rock coating on it.

Another option would be sliders, steps or rubber flaps that will bend if contact is made.

Thanks. I was thinking sliders and 3M overlay. I'll talk to bodyshop about another coat of rock guard but that will just mean more chips, heard good things about the 3M stuff but also heard it tends to yellow over time which is fine I can just reapply every few years.

    Didn't think about the overlay.

That would probably be my first choice if it looks decent.

Go get it line-x'd with the line x xtra in your body color. Buddy's line x shop does it all the time. I'll be doing mine in red.

Since it's in the rock chip / textured paint zone, you have a couple choices.

Keep it touched up. White, and in the textured area, with minimal effort you'd be able to pass the 1' test.

Strengthen the chip resistance of the area. www.monstaliner.com has product that would look much nicer than traditional bedliner stuff.

You've got a lift and big tires, so surely you're a wheeler. Run it harder and don't worry about the chips scratches.

them stock mudflaps are on their for a reason.....

rock blockz are a secondary option.

Sliders that are filled in are another functional one as well..

I still rock stock flaps to keep from paint chips. yeah they drag here n there but they do a damn good job of keeping paint chips down.

I'm a fan of the line x. Going to get my truck done before winter. There is a full warranty too.

I'd half to agree with the line-x that stuff is very durable I had some Atv racks done in that stuff and if boulders won't chip it then it's good enough for rock chips

Do sliders help? More than nerf bars would?

I started a thread just like this about 5 months ago and couldn't find anything I really liked. I asked the detailer I go to about that 3m temporary spray and he said not to use it. I'm considering getting some bushwackers...you heard of those OP?

Why'd your dealer say that? Right now I used touch up paint and have sliders on the way. I asked my detail guy for a quote on the 3M but worried it will yellow with time.

I'd give a clear bra product a try. get a coat of wax on it and repeat when it eventually becomes discolored. much easier to deal with than a respray.FWIW I've had a product called venture shield on my front end since 2012 and it hasn't yellowed yet but rockers get much more abuse.

It was a detail shop guy. He said those products can get dirt or moisture under them and cause problems, especially on the chips that are already there. Sounded to me like it would be fine if you put in a good deal of effort in prepping the area. It may have just been him trying to keep me on the hook for annual touch ups... I don't see how it would be an issue if you were to peel and reapply once a year or so.

    Found these today...

    http://www.gorhino.com/Running-Boards

Site says they protect the truck from gravel almost as if it were their main purpose. I really like them, but they are pretty spendy, $550 is cheapest I found. I was thinking of getting sliders but I don't really like the idea of having them welded on (not a serious off roader here). I haven't really been able to find any pictures of Tacomas with them, I'm afraid they will stick out too far.

Anyways, just thought I'd post the link here in case anyone was still looking for gravel protection. Also, if anybody has seen these on a taco let me know!

Yeah I am not really into off-roading just to go off the road. I'll take trails to get to fishin holes or camping/hunting areas but that's it. I just want my truck to stay sexy
