I have a 2006 PreRunner, my wife put a dent in the rear bumper which is chrome. Has anyone ever repaired a chrome bumper ? My mechanic says I have to get a brand new one because chrome cannot be repaired, also he said I should buy the one that comes on the 4x4 Tacoma.

chrome bumpers are kinda hard to get the dents out of. you may need to look on ebay,or look thru the for sale/wanted to buy page here. you may find one at a really good price, instead of paying for a brand new one.

as far as what the mechanic says......the bumpers on the prerunner/4x4/sport models are the same. not sure what he is thinking about.

check this thread....this guy may still have his rear bumper, not sure though. you may want to pm him.

My mechanic was saying the 4x4 rear bumper can be repaired and sprayed but nothing 'sticks' to chrome.

Try hitting it on nd's head. If you do it right and hit it hard enough, there's a 50/50 probability you wont have to buy a new bumper. :drevil:

Having just had my Tacoma rearended twice I know too much about this.
The first time since the truck was only 3 months old and no paint damage. The insurance adjuster spec'd out a new replacement bumper. was in the shop a few hours.
This last time since it was in the shop for 9 days my bumper was sent out for straightening and rechroming. Takes a few days.
Yes they can be fixed. There have been places fixing chrome bumpers for a s long as I can remember.
Can you do it yourself. No.
The cost difference is a little over $100 between the two.
