Like anything else, get it out of the box, learn how to use it, where to position yourself, what not to do, etc. Don't forget a piece of plywood or a 2 by 12 scrap unless you want to just dig a hole. Or go all out and get the base.

A scrap of plywood is still a good idea even for the factory jack.

    DANGER! DANGER!

I HAD one of those "hilift" knock offs from TSC. Damn near killed me when it suddenly decided to drop like a proverbial rock....They are junk. I ended up scrapping mine. In good conscience I could NOT let someone else have it. I've heard more than one person have the same history with them. Real HiLift brand jack isn't but a few peso's more and is SAFE. Order from 4Wheel Parts (as one option) and have it shipped. Not worth dying in order to save a few bucks.

BTW, HiLift brand is made in Central Indiana. They have a HiLift customer appreciation day NEXT weekend at Redbird ORP (also in Indiana) Many door prizes, accessories at low prices, etc...

Seriously, do NOT spend a nickel on the TSC knock off. It has a habit of injuring people. Same story with the Horrible Freight farm jack. HiLift invented this product and they perfected it. I have a special edition HiLift. (Patriot model.....red white and blue!) Yeah, you could buy TWO TSC jacks for what I paid....and get hurt TWICE. HiLift has a number of very useful accessories that fit their jacks. You can get the jack and a complete accessory kit (in canvas bag) for around $125. Seems like I paid around $70 for my jack.

Got it mounted in my truck bed. It's held in place with two large wing nuts. So twist my nuts if you want to jack off....

WHaaa! It's blue! Is the 48" length enough if the plan is to have a 3" lift?

What was the failing point on your TSC lift? Was it the Bulldog or a different brand?

The one I used was janky AF. It was new to a jeep owner coworker and I was demonstrating how to use it.

I've heard the ratcheting mechanism is crap on all of them compared to the hilift which is super smooth. Any other jankiness?

I'm just trying to gather some data on if I should relegate mine to recovery only where it seems less likely to kill me, or go with it. The 'both sides of the coin' part of my mind is just struggling to accept that TSC who I generally have good experiences with would produce a product that is such a total piece of trash.

To be clear, I'm not doubting any of what you guys are saying, I just like to try to get the most objective look at something I can before I make a decision about buying or keeping it.

Yes, as jaanky as you can imagine. I'm thinking about it like this. We won't be using our lifts in a parking lot. Also, I may be crawling around under your rig and if yours is TSC, we'll be using mine :D
