Planning 5-day stay this year. Trying to start mid week to include @tacabode if possible. Camp on trail at least one night. No grandson this year so I can be a negative influence on the young folks.

Back on the tie rod thing. 2nd gens only have a changeable part being the outer tie rod end. To replace the rod itself, requires a complete new rack. Best to my knowledge.

By then I’ll have enough vacation to do whatever I want. I could take 36 hours and have almost two weeks off...

But I like going during the week. No one else is there. You have the whole place to yourself!

This is wrong. Here is a easy link if ur looking for an 4 wheel drive option. A pipe wrench, a 21mm, and a few zip ties is the difference between spending the day trying to figure out how your gonna move your truck w the inability to steer and continuing to ride

Not that the part doesn't fit my truck, but it says up to 2013 models.
Here's what that site has for 2014: https://www.1aauto.com/search?q=tie...ation_fitQualifierFld=4+Wheel+Drive&year=2014

..if you are unble to buy them from an aftermarket suppler because of the age of the truck you will have to get them the dealer. But they are still servicable outside a rack

One of these days I’d like to take my truck off road. And by that I mean more than the occasional drive through the grass median on the highway or up and over concrete road dividers downtown...

    What's stopping ya?
I was scared my first time, too. Come to the Red River Gorge meet. We won't let you break your truck.

It's got the good rearend in it. Not much else to worry about other than cosmetic stuff. Prolly wouldn't hurt to stick a skid plate and some sliders on though

Yeah these "planned" meets are usually very doable in stock trucks. Only thing stopping you from going is you :)

255/85-R16, stock suspension. I'm borrowing them for a week just to see how I like them. Not that anyone cares but I think I'm getting the same or a little better mpg than with the stock tires (265/70-R16), which is weird.
