Any of you Cinci locals have a lift? Since searching for things like 'what lift is best for a daily driver' gets me all sorts of noise, I figured I'd ask here. Since, you know, I inexplicably trust people that live near me more than other people?

Daily Driver Entry Level Lift: Spacer.
Daily Driver "Might Offroad a bit" lift: Bilstein 5100's / Old Man Emu
Daily Driver "Hit trails harder than fire roads": Icon/Fox/ADS/King
    ***NOTE***

Spacer lifts suck. Don't do it. I have the Bilstein 5100's and they serve my purpose of lifting it. The ride is better than stock, but its still pretty stiff.

Honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would probably go with ADS, and get UCA's.

Depends upon how hard you want to wheel when offroad.

When buying a lift, you really need to be SUPER honest with yourself, and consider what you intend to do with the truck, and how hard you want to wheel it.

Looking back, I probably should have done a full Mid-Travel set up.

Even though I don't get out to wheel that much, the "buy once, cry once" train of thought really hits home.

Follow on question- you guys do your own installs? Or did you have someone local do it. I'm not mechanically 'retarded' per say, but the extent of my wrenching has been installing my own exhausts, which is really just taking out a few bolts, and cursing alot trying to jam those little metal knobs into the asshole rubber hangers.

i don't agree with that... spacer's can cause serious problems... IMO if you can't afford a suspension lift, don't lift it. you're better off stock

speaking of stock, you stock suspension can actually handle quite a bit. if you're not really going to wheel, and you want your truck to handle better on the road, invest in a good set of tires and call it a day

if you're set on a lift get the best you can afford. a set of rebuild-able shocks (fox, king, icon, ads) will be much better quality and last MUCH longer, if properly cared for, than bilstein or ome, but will cost quite a bit more. decide what "group" you can afford, then do your research to see what would be best (for instance, there's a whole thread discussing king, fox, and icon and goes into great detail about icon digressive valving vs progressive)

there are plenty of guys, as you will see at LBL, that run bilstein or ome and do just fine on the trails. are they just as good as king? no... but they're also 1/4 the price... first, determine your budget!

So I've been leaning 3", but that just...doesnt seem like much. I want the truck to look and feel taller, be able to put some decent rubber on it, and be able to do moderate offroading that the stock truck would have trouble with, however, I need it to maintain some semblance of driveability day in and day out, because it's my only ride 40% of the year.

this i do agree with. also, to extend on your first point here for example: a king 2.5" shock will take significantly more punishment without you worrying about snapping it in half... the shaft is huge in comparison!!
i did my own but i had access to a buddy's shop, and i had help. still took us an entire day, but we did everything. brake lines, shocks, springs, wheels and tires, bump stops...

    I know, I know. Us guys don't think 3" is a lot.

But for these trucks, 3" is max, because your CV axles are going to scream mercy with anything taller than 3".

You can fit 33" tire with a 3 inch lift.

These trucks are so capable stock, that 3" of lift is typically enough, until you need to get into large numbers of articulation, of which you're going to be doing solid front axle swaps yada yada yada....

Mentioned previously, its possible that a more aggressive stock size tire may be all you need.
