Auto here. My buddy has the same issue in his 17 as well.

    UPDATE.

Dealer had my truck for a full day. Two techs and 2 hours in the truck and they claim they could not re create it..

Picked up my truck and filmed the first speed bump out of the dealership it made the sounds again.... Went in and raised shit seeing as how I've been asking about it for over a year now and they can't seem to figure it out. Got the word "characteristic" tossed out by the service manager and I laughed.

So over this BS to be honest. Calling toyota corp on monday.

    Stock for now
I had this noise from my front end for almost a year on my 11 and finally got it to go away when I replace the front body mounts near radiator. It would drive me nuts when I would hit speed bumps or potholes now it is quiet again. I have read that it is a problem on the third gen as well. I would try replacing the mounts if you have not tried it. I replaced several parts before this solved the issue.

You might check the torque on the sprindle bolt/nut, as well as the Lower control arm bolts, and maybe have your toe adjusted. If the toe is out the tie rods could be making noise as the suspension compresses/uncompresses, same thing with the spindle bolt. Lower control arm bolts just need to be torqued DOWN and can come loose so they are good to check especially after suspension work

May be the issue for folks with older trucks, but mine's brand new.

Ok guys, I just recorded this on my trip today. Beginning of this video... it sounds like a bunch of tin cans bouncing around under the front end.

Mine make a noise over large bumps like the first video, but it's nothing like OP's video. Holy carp, that would be annoying.

My 2nd gen makes the noise like the first video. I replaced everything, torqued everything and replacing the front rad support mounts with poly ones helped the most. Now it only creaks over large hits. I work in the woods so it was getting annoying

Removing the front sway bar helped as well, I feel it puts a lot of flexing pressure on the front of the frame

Sounds like a heat shield rattling, or something like that.

I’ve been having this noise off and on again for the last six months. Finally getting to the point where it is every day. Did you find any resolution?

I may have the same issue but my truck doesn't have to be off road to do it. It doesn't even have to be moving. Here's a video I took of it in my garage where the sound it is especially noticeable.

I left the truck with the Toyota Dealer several times where, of course, they say they can't recreate the issue. I got it to make the noise for them on one of these visits to the dealer right before I left and a service tech pressed on the heat shield for the cat which seemed to mute it. They eventually committed to dropping the exhaust to see if there was anything loose in it, but I haven't had time to take it back for them to do that. Look up videos of rattling catalytic converters and you will hear a similar noise. I usually describe it as sounding like a nut bouncing around in a tin can.

While I was under my truck today I found that the fuel tank plastic cover shield has a loose flex rattle, that touches the tank, towards the front if you press with your hand. Will add some foam support tomorrow and then test over dips in the neighborhood.

The only noise that seemed similar to mine is if I grab the CV axles and shake them. They are brand new though so I’m guessing it is normal.

If that is the normal noise that the factory CV axles make when they compress then I can almost see RCV axles being wirth the $2,500 bucks if theyre really that much stronger AND eliminate that noise. Have no idea about whether they actually would eliminate the noise though... someone should test and report back
