I just purchased a Clarion NX500 and installed in my 2006 Taco. Does anyone know what does the reverse gear wire do? I read through the manual and did not find any mentioning about this wire.

    Thanks.

It activates the back up camera display, if you have a backup camera installed.

I think you'll have to buy the after market camera. I wanted my stock camera hooked up to my Kenwood head unit and they said it wouldn't work.

search camera wire and you will find a post on where the factory wires are and how to hook the factory camera into your head unit. I would post the link but I'm drunk and not sure how.

Thanks. Does the hot wire (+) from the backup light connect to this Clarion wire or the (-) wire? I bought a Boyo 420C camera. I am afraid to apply any juice to the circuit. I don't want to fry the Clarion.

I connected a Boyo 420C camera to the NX500 and I am very disappointed with the picture quality. It is very dark and the bad thing is that once I shift to reverse, it takes too long for the picture to show up. By then, I am already backed out of my space.:(
