depends on trailer. I use a 3-1/4 drop for utility trailer and pop up camper. Switch to an inverted 2" drop or 1" rise for boat that has a higher coupler and more tongue weight. I leave the 3-1/4 in when running ranch roads to protect the trailer plug

when I pulled a 5x8 trailer from uhaul on the 12 Tacoma, used a standard 2" drop.

Look, I know I was doing it wrong ... but I had a straight hitch from my Lightning that sat pretty low, and I used that with my brother's stock height F150 to tow a trailer up to Michigan last year. It wasn't level, but it towed and drove just fine.

I would imagine that if you have anything even remotely better than the dicked up setup I used then you'll be just fine :)

Level to slightly high at hitch will give you the best control over the trailer

Heck for $30 less than that I can have 2 ball mounts and a lock that fits my ignition key. I could see the Trimax being useful if you own many different trailers all with different coupler heights.

I smell what you're cooking however not all scenarios or personal needs are the same. Say, if you're renting a trailer on a timeline and don't have the option of getting the drop/ball wrong. The other advantage is multiple keys mean additional time and risk for thieves. The only advantage to keyed alike systems is convenience. Keep in mind if it's convenient for you, it's the same for some selfish prick with the right tools and the wrong moral code. Take the trailer... it's insured along with the contents, all replaceable in time, and I can still drive home from the middle of Nowhere-tucky. Take my truck and it's a shit show of epic proportions.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
I did this exact request today. 2016 TRD sport w/ tow package, towing uhaul 6x12 trailer with ramp. Used a 2" drop receiver and 2" ball. Pretty much perfectly level. Hauled 5 yards of mulch perfectly. If you need pics let me know I can add them.

my hitch lock works with my Toyota ignition key. They are a little pricey but don't need a separate key and more srcure

I used a 4" drop yesterday pulling a 6.5x14 trailer and it looked a but low(but level) in my opinion...I'm also lifted 3 inches and had a 4x4 gator in the trailer.

    hope this helps!
