Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is the third most widely produced plastic, after polyethylene and polypropylene.[2] PVC is widely used in construction because it is durable, cheap, and easily worked. PVC production is expected to exceed 40 million tonnes by 2016.[3][4]
It can be made softer and more flexible by the addition of plasticizers, the most widely used being phthalates. In this form, it is used in clothing and upholstery, electrical cable insulation, inflatable products and many applications in which it replaces rubber.

My tacoma has 250,000 miles with a volant intake and it didnt look that bad i would check to see if your intake or filter is leaking. i ususally rub a little grease on the seal to increase minimize leaks.

The 2nd charcoal filter is only for the I4? Correct me if I'm wrong. Just how I've thought about it since forever

Only the 4cyl. have a noticeable gain from removing it.. I just didnt see the need for it, and figured any little bit helps.. :)

It may be particulate getting past your air filter, but that wouldnt stick without moisture... The moisture is definitely from the hose that comes after the MAF and goes into the top of the cylinder head on the passenger side... (Is that the PVC?) Anyway, thats only there to allow the pressures inside the cylinder to operate on both intake and exhaust strokes efficiently. It also allows really hot oily gases (air) circulate in and out of the intake tract. Old muscle cars will usually remove the hose and install a tiny little filter as to prevent dirt from entering the engine, and still allow the movement of air "out" of the engine. I dont know alot about it, but I did port and polish then clean my throttle body very thouroughly, and removed the intake manifold for painting and cleaning.. that gunk was all the way down there. Since then I've taken the TB off again... and its still clean and shiny! So in my opinion, unplugging the hose from the K&N piping was beneficial. just be sure to block the hole in the intake, and create some kind of filter for the spot your hose went into the top of the engine. .

If Im wrong.... Someone will correct me..
