Ok for some reason I figured you would have to pull the driveline apart again to flip it around. I could give this a try pretty easily. do you guys think that if I flipped it the angle would improve?

 

Yes, read what was posted on page 45 of this thread. Depending on your lift height and the angles of your first shaft (from transmission) and your second shaft (to the differential) you may have to adjust your rear differentials pinion angle. It gets kind of complicated and overwhelming. Watch the video I posted a page back or so and it will help. Also read about two peice driveshaft angles and what they should be for toyotas.

How many people here have actually installed their new bearing so far? We all demand pics of it installed.

 

I installed and it seemed like there was some extra gap from the yoke/u joint ears right next to the carrier, didn't seem to slide on all the way back towards the bearing/front shaft, even after hammering it. Is this normal?

I installed it the same orientation as pg 45 aND the op.

 

It's normal. That's how mine is. Small gap front and back.

 

I haven't done mine YET but what side of the bearing is towards the front. I see a distinctive difference on each side of the bearing. One side is protruding out more than the other side of the metal housing.

 

Look at page 45 to confirm but I'm pretty sure it's the longer poly side towards the front

 

Just did a small 2 hour round trip, it was bad. A lot of vibrations. This carrier is great, a very good product, but if you don't have your driveshaft angle right, expect some vibes in different speed levels.

I ran it inverted with 2" spacers, but now I put in 1-1/4" spacers, I think that's the minimum spacer - because at 1" the driveshaft hits the carrier mount as seen on pg 45. It seems to ride better now, just need to install some axle shims.

 

Ok! Over the weekend I drove back to my hometown, and too my circular saw. Home Depot didn't have the correct tubing, so I picked up some temporary tubing until I find the correct size for the blocks and the right tubing. My previous post in this thread was a total lie. I hadn't driven long enough on a smooth road to figure out that I had bad vibrations at virtually every mph. So I went ahead and flipped it around and put 2 1/8th inch blocks in it. This still has vibrations at 11-20 and 30-35, but this is way better than 30 - 80 mph vibes. I know there is a sweet spot somewhere in there and I'll let you guys know what it is when I find it in a couple weekends.

Not bad. I wouldn't add much or any more spacer than that in effort to keep the front shaft higher than the rear. I also wondered if it vibrated more with larger spacers?

 

I'm just gonna be that guy that says it's not called a carrier bearing. Carrier bearings are inside the 3rd, to support the carrier....

I've always been under the impression that it was both. It's the center bearing because it's roughly in the center, and it's called a carrier bearing because it kind of carries the driveshaft.

EDIT:

It's a sealed bearing... Duh! All the geese packed around it had me fooled for a bit!

Did your new poly bearing assembly seal to the yolk? As you can see from the pics, mind isn't going to. The back side deals up fine, but there's going to be a slight gap up front. Obviously, this is no good...

I know one of the pics is the wrong side. I was just checking both orientations.

Am I missing something here?





Also, did you reuse this washer? It just makes the gap bigger
