Would like to replace tires before too long on a TRD Off Road (no lift). What is the closest tire in 265/75/16 (slightly larger than OEM) weight wise? Prefer something a little more aggressive than stock, but don't want to suffer lower MPG.

    Thanks

Falken Wildpeaks are a very popular option.

Depends on what you need out of a tire.

If the OE tires met your needs, then Michelin Defenders should be an excellent choice.

Costco. Since you have time, wait till there is a sale that includes mount/balance/disposal/lifetime rotations/road hazard for a couple bucks.

The OE Goodyear tires are on the low to average scale in terms of quality. I would say that the Wildpeaks definitely fit that category. As do Cooper, Hankook, and Sumitomo. If you want get something better, consider Michelin, Bridgestone Revo, Continental. If you don't go off road and want quiet smooth ride, go with a highway tire. If you want something that looks more agressive, but still rides great look at an AT tire like the Michelin AT2, Nitto Ridge Graphler, or AT Revo.

If you really like the OEM tires you could always go with the same ones just one size bigger.

The defenders are great tires for something similar to OEM wranglers only better.

I would go with the LTX AT2 version:

Thanks for the replies. What is the weight difference comparing oem Goodyears 265 70 16 to the Wildpeaks in 265 75 16?

My old Tundra ran Michelin LTX AT2s throughout Baja and never missed a beat. Air down in sand, good mud traction and quiet on the road. Plus they have 60k mile warranty. I’ll put them on the taco when these wear out.

How are you liking those Pirellis? I had my eye on them. Newer to the market but I have run Pirellis on all my BMWs and have really liked those tires.

Any insights? I hear they are also very reasonably priced, too.

So far i only have a few thousand on them, i did notice a little more skinny peddle is needed because i went up +1 size, but i knew it was going to be that way. "bigger diameter"
i do like the looks on the truck and they do good in the snow so far.
there is a thread just for this tire, check it out.

I looked up weights, I’m considering the same size. I only looked at tires with the mountain snowflake rating. The low weight choice is the Firestone Destination A/T2 at 37 pounds. Tire rack has it rated #3 in their A/T category, but there isn’t that much mileage logged compared to other tires.

    Stock tires:
Goodyear WRANGLER ALL-TERRAIN ADVENTURE WITH KEVLAR - SIZE: 265/70R16 35 pounds

    265/75R16:
    Kumho ROAD VENTURE AT51 - SIZE: P265/75R16 40 pounds
GENERAL GRABBER APT - SIZE: 265/75R16 42 pounds
    Yokohama Geolander A/T G015 - SIZE: P265/75R16 41 pounds
    Cooper DISCOVERER AT3 4S - SIZE: 265/75R16 41 pounds
Pirelli SCORPION ALL TERRAIN PLUS - SIZE: 265/75R16 41 pounds
    Firestone DESTINATION A/T2 - SIZE: P265/75R16 37 pounds
    Hankook DYNAPRO AT2 - SIZE: 265/75R16 41 pounds
Toyo OPEN COUNTRY A/T III - SIZE: 265/75R16 41 pounds
Goodyear WRANGLER DURATRAC - SIZE: LT265/75R16 45 pounds
    Falken Wildpeak AT3W - SIZE: LT265/75R16 43.9 pounds

At least it still looks like a truck tire, but I would have to go black walls out. I like the look of the Falken with the side protectors, but I’m guessing 7 pounds more per tire would be noticeable. Either tread pattern would be fine on the beach.

Anything larger and more aggressive will lose mileage. I’d do Michelins if you can afford them.

Damn this thread. I was all set on getting the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, now the weight issue has me thinking I should go with the Firestone Destination AT/2 because of the 7 pounds per tire. 28 pounds of rotating mass is not insignificant.

I have Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws on my Tacoma and Toyo Open Country AT3s on my 4runner. They’re both great, but I like the Toyos better. They’re one of the best, if not thee best truck tires I’ve ever had... Aggressive A/T tread, but they ride smooth, not loud, easy to balance (2 of mine required no weights at all!) and 3 peak mtn snowflake rated. Doesn’t get any better IMO.

In the past I've dealt with the Destination LE's which are a more highway oriented tire but was still overall pretty pleased. I really want to go up in a size but 6 or 7 pounds per corner seems like it's gonna kill any type of handling I have...then again it's a truck, not a sports car.

Roughly how many added lbs per tire (265/75/16) will cause a noticeable drop in mpg?
