As far as I know, the above is how it goes. Lack of fluid or air in your lines, you are screwed. I've experienced air in my brake lines due to a leak and the brake pedal was almost completely useless. Lucky I wasn't going very fast that the e-brake stopped the car. On another experience, lack of pressure or fluid flowing through the clutch line render the clutch useless also. Clutch either stayed on the floor or depressing it did absolutely nothing.

Seems like a safety feature fail to me.

Looks like the 09's have the seperate clutch resevoir.

The reservoir is separated by a divider. You fill both at the same time, but once down to a certain level, you only loose fluid on one side.

Also, in the 2nd Gen Tacomas, you'll only have a separate reservoir for the clutch if you have VSC.

I have not really examined under the hood of the 12/13's. Toyota makes mini changes all the time. The only thing I've noticed from the new ones I've seen are ethe extra smog device by the airbox.

You sure? I've seen a combined fluid reservoir. Can't recall what it was on though.

The ones I've had were always separate but apparently our trucks does have combined depending on the year and if you have vsc. My 09 was separate.

The clutch fluid pickup is above the min. level in the brake cylinder very common practice.

Which thumbnail picture are you referring to? Gold one is of a 1st gen and white one is a 2009 DCSB 4x4 TRD OR 6speed.

I meant the thumbnail pic on the first page of the engine compartment pointing to the clutch reservoir. The truck appears to be white.

the resivoir is certainly not there on the '12s. I just put my sPOD right in that same spot on the inner fender well. It must be combined together. I guess i'll take a look next time i swing the hood open

They're both in the first page :D The one with the label "clutch reservoir" is indeed white and the 09 DSCB TRD 4x4 6 speed.

I'm assuming the separation is only on the off road model as they have A-trac so they want to keep the brake fluid separte from the clutch fluid.

What I was trying to determine was the year and model of:
The one with the label "clutch reservoir" ( white engine compartment )
