At 40k some miles and the clutch on my 2012 2.7L is slipping! It's not too bad yet, only does it in 4th or 5th if you really put the pedal to the floor. But it's doing it for sure.

    Arrrrggg!

I've been driving manuals for more than a decade and never burnt the clutch or prematurely wore one out in any vehicle. I'm hazarding a guess I've got one of the crappy LUK clutches from Mexico.

Problem is, I'm out of the powertrain warranty now. If I had know Toyota quality wasn't what it used to be, I'd have bought an extended warranty!

So, what are my options? Is going to my dealer and begging for a comp/partial comp on the clutch job worth my time? Or are they gonna tell me to scram?

    Thanks for any advice.

    1. If you are only at 40K miles your power train warranty is still in effect until 60K or 60 months. So that is not an issue.

    2. The clutch disk is a wear item and the dealer may or may not assist. You should at least ask for it. It is a known issue with the cheap clutches.

The absolute worst that could happen is they say no.

Thanks, thought powertrain was to 36k only. But that's for Chrysler products whoops.

What's a typical clutch job on these trucks cost, parts +labor? $1.5k?

Is this clutch job pretty easy? If Toyota denies, might try it myself.

That would cost more money than repairing the clutch... ?

Purchased LCE Pro Clutch for $325, had local Midas put it in for $200.

    Problem solved.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Its pretty damn easy on a new truck.

I did it 3 times on my 2008 (throwout bearing failure's not clutch) but when its apart might as well do it all.

Autozone clutch was lifetime warranty and thats what it did $220 i think but i only had to pay for one.

If you were closer i would offer to help.

Like was posted about plan for 2 days being a beginer but really without problems its only a 4-5 hour job, including 1-2 hours for having your flywheel turned.

Also, if your worried about the wieght, have a friend help out. Better than getting squished. (tranny is less than 300 lbs i would bet)

I have a 2012 tacoma access cab 2.7 4x4 5 speed with 38000 miles and the clutches slipped in 5th gear on a cold morning. I called the dealership where I bought the truck and they said they never heard of such a thing.

Chrysler powertrain warranty is longer at 5 years/100k. ;)
    http://www.chrysler.com/en/warranty/

But the clutch can be considered a wear item.

They always say that to anyone with any problem .

Not just toyota though, seems like anytime a dealer has to do warranty work they try to get out of it ..

Hey just a little update, I recently discovered a tsb 0066-11 which states a faulty clutch from 05-13 4cly 5 speed trucks and replaces the stock part with updated clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and other springs and bearing and was able to get toyota to do it for free even though I was over the 36000 miles warranty since my truck now has 41k.. The new clutch has a way better feel than the original stock and would highly advise anyone having clutch trouble to pursue getting your clutch changed by your toyota dealer.
