So I helped my brother move and towed a small trailer well under the 3500 limit of my truck. Since I bought it the clutch has felt a bit odd and the engagment has been better on my other cars. So, moved the brother and now my clutch slips in 4th and 5th right after, and 2nd and 3rd next day as well. Not so bad as to not drive around town, but only with a light foot.

My truck has the crap LUK clutch and 71k. Its a 5 lug.

New clutch? if so, which one?
Is the swap hard to do, what should I look for?

Kinda pissed, but its not like I can get a clutch back through anger.....

Personally I'd just get an aisin stock replacement..... I abuse mine and it's been great.... when it comes to diying a clutch job it's not really complicated but it all depends on your technical ability. There's a few writeups floating around, make sure you get the fly wheel resurfaced at a machine shop. And do the throw out bearing while you're in there. If you want more agressive I've heard interesting things about the center force dual friction as well

Did a dual friction on my 944 once and did them in my rx7 before. Wish that marlin had one for our trucks after looking at replacments. I will look at the aisin, might look for more agressive. Of course it goes on the first snow and cold snap of the year.

Well, I found a stock aisin that is the upgraded version for a good deal. Should be here in a week and then plan on the install.

Has anyone had this done? What did it cost?

Ok, I have searched around, cannot find a write up on clutch swap for the 2.7 second gen. Is there one?

*edit page three has the write up

I recently did clutch on my 2.7. I used the updated Aisin clutch disk and an Aisin pressure plate for the 3.4 v6 which fit fine. It holds so much better and still has smooth engagement. I sourced all Oem parts on Amazon. Hardest part was removing the pilot bearing. Make sure you buy new flywheel bolts as they are stretched on first application. Dealer had the cheapest price on these.

Here are the part numbers I used except for flywheel bolts. hope this helps.

    Throwout bearing 31220-35071
    Pilot bearing 90363-12020
    Pressure plate Aisin CTX107
    Alignment tool center force 50011
    Clutch disk 31250-60500

I brought up the tsb to the dealer, I have a 2011 with certified 100k powertrain warranty. They had me call Toyota and they basically laughed at me when I asked them to cover under the warranty. It's a wear item and it looks like they would only cover under extremely early failures. My truck had 60k on it and I even showed Toyota the broken Luke pressure plate......hope they cover yours.

Changing out a clutch in a repair shop with a lift and a transmission jack is a lot simpler than doing it in your drive way with a pair of arms. People do use the latter technique all the time, but lifting equipment can come in handy. Lots of videos on youtube to help out.

I have to take it into the dealer on monday, the wierd part is that it is getting worse so fast. I have burnt up a clutch before but it was weeks of getting worse not hours. I hope they step up, but I have a replacment in the mail if they don't. I just can't deal with weeks of run around.

I like my local dealer and they have always been great for recall and parts stuff, so I hope they help out.

If I have to do it, I have all the tools. I thought about going to one of those diy shops that has everything and you rent a bay by the day. But its 35 miles away and my truck doesn't like speeds above 45 or hills at the moment.

Just dropped it off... They said it would be tomorrow before they could get to it. I told them about the tsb, and they said they would look it up. Hope they have good news. They at least have me a ride home on this beautiful 25 degree day.

Last time I had to walk home.

Back from the dealer, 1350 estimate to replace clutch, and the flywheel. Or 825 without the flywheel.

Or, 425 to 450 at local shop.

Or do it myself and hope it goes smooth and I can ge the flywheel resurfaced the same day.

    Decisions decisions

Do you mean a new flywheel ?
You will not get a warranty unless the flywheel is machined flat .
I like the local shops, price better than the dealer

Yeah the dealer wanted to put in a new flywheel.

I took it to the dealer to see if they might, might, replace it under the tsb. I'm calling around town today getting estimates. Have a new aisin kit on the way and figure on doing mt90 oil in the trans as well. The dealer said my clutch pedal was very stiff, but didn't expand on that other than to say they would look at it if I have the replace the clutch. Its not different now as when I got the truck with 35k on it, but its quite a bit stiffer than my brothers TJ. Normal?
