    Hi Everybody,

I own a 2001 5m 4x4 with 145k on a 2.7 engine. Each time I start my engine, I have to push the Clutch Start Cancel button in before starting it. Any thoughts on what I need to do to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for all of the positive anwsers

There is a button that the clutch pedal arm pushes into its housing, allowing you to crank the engine. All the switch does is take that button out of the circuit. I bet the switch is either bad, you aren't pushing the clutch in enough, or the clutch pedal is missing that button. It's a little skinny black button down near the firewall.

Kind of a cool anti theft mod if you think about it! :p

My previous owner had a little anti-theft mod when i bought my truck. There two wire loom under the dash that clip together to create that circuit. Either it is plugged or unplugged. Take a look under the switch and see if you can find the clip

I hear that using that clutch start a lot will wear your starter.

Only if you try to start it in gear. It will lurch forward. If the clutch is in or it is in neutral than it is perfectly fine.

What Misterdmac said. I had the same problem, and found that my pedal was un-adjusted on top of not pushing it in fullly.

    please help.
it is not the starter, wire from starter to battery, battery or flywheel. it will start 99% of the time if i press the clutch cancel button. it happens more often when the truck is driven hard. please view video to hear the sounds it makes. https://youtu.be/zCs98wgbgiA

you sure the brushes inside the starter aren't worn down? Has the starter ever been replaced?

YES. i have replaced it with 3 starters. i just kept the 3red new starter in there because i knew that it had to be something els. and it happens intermittent. and what i do not get is when i hit the clutch cancel button it turns right over like normal.

yes i have had it like this for over a year because the clutch cancel button Will start it without any problem. And I have taken it to mechanics and they just crashed there head and tell me they don't know. i can feel the starter hitting the fly will and its not spinning it is making the connection just fine but its like the starter dose not have enough power to turn the flywheel.

yep it works fine when i push the clutch cancel button. and i know other people have had a similar problem with there trucks not starting because of a button under their clutch paddle but mine actually tries to turn over. I think that there's did not turnover at all.

Since none of my vehicles no longer have these things I wonder if the contacts in the pedal switch are worn just enough to cause slow cranking . Then the adjustment might be off enough to make intermittent contact.

I need to look at the schematics to see just how the circuit is laid out.

If it works every time with the button pushed
