Took my Tacoma in for emissions inspection and oil change to a trusted mechanic. They said this code came on, but emissions passed anyway so registration was renewed.

Could this be as simple as the gas cap or is this more involved? Mechanic said perhaps the canister needs to be replaced, but to check with dealership. Any advice? Also, anyone know a mechanic in PA that has dealt with these exact codes.

    Thanks!

I would start with checking to make sure the gas cap is tight or even replace it, clear the code and see if it comes back. Also check for the condition of the hoses but next item would be the canister purge valve if needed.

I actually got this one a year ago. I know I dropped it a few times. Also, my wife overfilled after the first "click" unfortunately. But it sounds like I need to replace the gas cap asap just to find out.

But like b_r_o said, go with the cheap fix first. Unless you cracked the cap after dropping it a few times will cause the CEL but I would check the fuel cap O-ring too, if you see cracks on the O-Ring then that might be your problem.

Try gas cap first. Then look into other options. I’m still having trouble with mine but I think I’m a special case lll

Also clean the spout of the filler neck . Just a little bit of grim will cause air to get sucked in.
