so I took my struts out (5100's with 3" springs) and I can't get a spring compressor to fit in the coils. I'm trying to lower the setting for less preload. So I'm debating loosening the nut that holds the top plate on but obviously I don't want the coil to possibly enter my body. Can I loosen the nut up a bit to allow more space between coils?

I've searched, I've already read up on a shit ton of this process, I wasn't expected to run into this issue tho. I ended up getting the compressors in there with some effort, but I still don't know if it's cool to loosen the top nut a little bit safely.

Doesn't the LCA method stretch the brake lines tho? Or do you just remove it from the hub?

Try removing the jaws from the long bolt on the compressors and angling them in. I've used a pry bar to open the springs slightly to get them in on another vehicle before.

Yes, you can. Just use your brain and don't loosen it to the point where it releases. :homer:
