Coilover Question

Seat Belt Chime Mod, Flowmaster 50 series dual exhaust, Debadged tailgate, TRD Decals, HID hi/low + fogs.
    Soooooo whats the major differences.

    I see the toytec coilovers have the bilstein5100's and new coils. Why are they 800 bucks when the bilstein5100's cost 200 and some OME885 coils cost 165?

    Could u just get 5100's and OME coils and have a local auto shop assemble the strut for you? seems like it would be a better setup than stock and more cost efficient than just getting the toytec coilovers.

    Well isnt it the 5100's that are what is adjustable not the coil

    Ok I think I am seeing the difference

    But you can take 5100's and install them into the stock strut assembly correct? And those are adjustable up to 2.5 inches.

    The C/O's are adjustable up to 3.5inches but what are the 5100's inside them set at?

    Also what about the ICONS?

    If you put them at maximum lift does it just stiffen the ride? less downtravel?

    Alright, here's the skinny on the coilovers - purchased assembled as opposed to purchasing separate parts...

    If you use your stock top plate AND you have another vehicle other than your Taco that you can drive to a shop, then you can save some money buying the parts separate. But here are the steps:
    1. Remove stock coil assembly
    2. Take old and new parts to shop. They will compress the stock coils to remove the top plate, then compress the new coils to assemble the new coilover assembly. It will look like this:

    3. Go back home and put your truck back together.

    Buy the adjustable coilovers already assembled and you can just remove the stock assembly, then bolt on the new one. Also, it will come with a machined top plate that is much thicker, giving you a little additional lift.

    The bottom line is that if you reuse your stock top plate, then you can save about $150 over the assembled coilovers, but you have to deal with the whole "getting them assembled" hassle. You can also buy ToyTec's machined top plate, but it was $150 shipped, so no savings.

    My advice (because I bought all the parts separate thinking like you that I'd save money) is to purchase the assembled coilover. It's what I would do if I had it to do over again...

    Sweet Jason! thanks for the tips! Yea I did the same thing buying my tires and wheels because the guy at discount tire kept trying to charge me extra for some reason.

    Well I went to a different shop once I got the tires and wheels in and just for reference asked the guy how much it would be if I just bought it from him and he told me a price that was less. Dont know if it was with tax and installed or not but I think it was. Kinda pissed but glad its all done and in.

    Did u ever calculate your true mpg?

    You having 4WD the max you should go is 2.5" to prevent CV problems. If you plan to really use the truck off road invest in a rebuildable shock, they will last allot longer...You can just replace parts instead of whole shocks.

    should be- how high are you planning on going? even with the diff drop if you go above 2.5" then you are stressing the upper ball joints if you are not planning on replacing them

    well right now with the 3'' spacer and new tires I am completely satisfied with height. I know new UCA's are probably needed sometime soon so thats my next venture with the C/O's
