So i'm very interested in installing a cold air intake on my truck, but alot of people seem to be saying not to. Does anyone have any information or actual feed back on this? If i'm not going to benefit from the cold air intake then i'll save my $300 but, if its actually going to make a difference then i'm all in. I have the TRD model, which has the air filter in the fender, technically making it a "Cold Air Intake" because its blocked off from the heat of the engine bay, but will a Cold Air Damn intake be any Better?

I had a k&n on my old F 150. It sounded great, but that was about it. The truck didn't turn into a dragster and it still got about 14 mpg. I've heard that a trd filter would be the best way to go if you want one and keep the cold air intake. Search the threads and you'll find all sorts of opinions, if you want it, go for it. That's my opinion.

Just the cold air intake will not make a difference. At all.

If you added an exhaust as well it would be negligible. If you did the intake, exhaust, and a tune it would be minimal. If you added the intake, exhaust and forced induction it might be worth it.

welcome to the forum. our truck already has a cold air intake. this issue has been covered dozens of times so you are really beating the dead horse on this one. take a quick search through the forum to find dozens of threads on this. i believe the consensus is to skip that mod but there are several members that believe it does give some gains. i personally put that money towards suspension as you can see in my post history. good luck with the decision. if you have $300 to burn why not check out the TW members products and support the forum community?

    happy new year!

x2 Exactly, by itself the gains are minimal but adding other bolt ons the gains will be seen ie; intake, exhaust, headers, etc...

Here's actually proof instead of someone posting it doesn't do anything comments:

As stated above there "may be" some very small gains had from adding this and that, but the Cost to return ratio is waaaay out of whack. Too much money for little or nothing in return.

It can also cause you many headaches. If you have read the threads on here of all the CEL's that have been thrown over CAI's.

You're better off saving the $300 and use it towards more useful things like Weathertech digital floor mats or HID retrofits.

If anyone tells you they got gains, even small gains, and cannot produce the proof from a DYNO printout don't believe them. What they got was false positives usually from sound change from their normal human senses.

I got some gains (small but I have noticed them) with this and a flowmaster. its a little quicker, mostly at higher rpms. but once it gets there all the noise makes you feel amazing. (I said small gains.)

I put the TRD cat back and AFE on my truck a little while ago. I did it because I was planning to put a S/C on. Now, I'm probably not going to do the S/C.

For me, there isn't any NOTICEABLE Gain or loss. I do like the sound of the two combined though. If you want to do what I did and spend $800 for the sound, go for it. If you're looking for performance, save your money.

In my case, my favorite place to be is in my garage tinkering on something, so at least I got that out of it.

Plus, I changed my plugs today. It was a breeze with the AFE on the passenger side.
