I've heard good things about the AFE dry drop in by itself.

It's what I have in the oem intake box in the attic. It was fine but...........

I didn't like the Volant intake nor the K&N by themselves for different reasons so I combined the best things about both of them and ended up with better looking less clompy cluttered underhood with sealed clear lid filter box breathing thru oem fenderwell spot and a washable non-oiled filter with more sound. Something not found on every other truck is just extra plus. Truck loves it, it tells me so and that is what matters most............

That dry filter is the bomb. I had an oiled K&N on my 95 pickup and it was the nastiest POS. Too much time wasted cleaning off all of the grime it attracted.

This is funny. You don't need an air filter anyways, just remove it.

According to digitalbravos logic, the engine always takes how much air it needs regardless, so you might as well just tape over the intake :)

Some are better than others. @Krystal32490 , Validated dyno's are in my signature. Best one will be the AFe, whom also used to make the 1st Gen TRD intakes for the 2nd gen Taco's.

Laminar flow. All about the laminar flow. That is where the AFe improves over the flow of OEM. Both are sealed in an ABS plastic to abate heat saturation, and keeping IAT's as close to ambient as possible, through all driving conditions.

Some people have even adapted the Volant scoop to the AFe.

Honestly the stock intake is fine. But I got the K&N washable filter, does seem to breathe just a little better and my fuel economy went up by about .6mpg

I was going to go for the cool factor but decided to save my money. Went with AFE drop in instead. I may take out the charcoal filter.

All K&N cold air intakes do is let more dirt into your engine and cost you money.

If you want the best out of a cold air intake you need to keep the air flow at the throttle body at or near outside ambient air temp . This can be done by sleeving the intake tube with heat barrier wrap to keep air temps cooler

Also placing the filter in a high press area to get the airflow as strong as possible into the filter

Not if you run a K&N filter sock over the filter media . Ever see a dirt Sprint car with a filter sock ?? , I've never seen dirt inside the Airbox of a Sprint car

I'm running a K&N filter sock on my K&N CAI on my 2002 2.7 4cylinder Tacoma .Also I run the filter dry as a wet filter is like running a fatter fuel mixture

Ever thought of getting air into the motor from the cowl ?? Cut a hole in the firewall that accesses the cowl area . This would create a ram air effect ,only thing is filter placement or location

Think of how a NASCAR Cup car gets air into the motor , yep thru the cowl as it is a strong high pressure area

Look at this mfg ..... http://www.ramairbox.com

I've never heard of filter socks, sounds like a good idea. The dyno tests I've seen of K&N CAIs there was no significant increase in horsepower, something like 1-2 hp out of 150 hp which is probably within the uncertainty of the testing equipment.

Wrap the intake tube with heat resistant sleeving and watch those hp#'s increase drastically !!!!

Like mentioned I've got a 2.7 4 cylinder and it's making alot more than 150hp . It has a TRD Supercharger , K&N CAI , Doug Thorley header and 2.5" exh with 3" dia Spintech race muffler

When I see the dyno test results I'll reconsider, butt dyno doesn't count.

None. You already have one. Just keep the filter clean/replaced, based on either a normal maintenance schedule or sooner if you drive in harsh conditions.

Nope. Unless lightening your wallet helps MPG. But since no one pays with cash anymore, I guess that's out.

No see, wasn't that a much nicer set of answers than all the gibberish that went on above? :anonymous:

The rule of thumb is basically 1% hp increase per 10 deg drop in air temp

So let's say you can get a 15deg cooler intake charge that's an easy 22.5 hp increase
