    ...we'll get there.
My taco is my strongest starting cold weather vehicle yet.

Your double crank situation might be getting just enough of something from the first cranking to make the second one successful. Just enough friction to warm something up that little bit or loosen it up and then take another drag off of the battery.

It's been below zero all weekend here and besides a few extra cranks my truck hasn't been labored when starting. Once it goes it goes. ...Now the molasses clutch on a -10 morning?

you should actually run 5w as recommended. would be better in the colder months anyway. I've even contemplated using 0W as it would be less viscous for cold weather

I know its not related to the cold start but the ebrake light usually means you need to top of the brake fluid reservoir. Good luck with the starting issues

Just a suggestion here. The Lucas oil stabilizer is really thick and my be making cold cranking more difficult. Also, I have had very good success with one of those magnetic engine heaters. Just stick it to the oil pan and plug in. I leave it in place. It is a strong magnet.

got down to -32. Sometimes my 98 starter will not engage and just make the spinning sound. Usually have to wait just a little and it works. Does it every so often.

-15F...Truck has started the first time everytime so far, yet it seems a bit sluggish for being 25-30 degrees. I definitely think the starter or something of that sort is going out. I called toyota just to see what a new one would be and they want $220 and that's with bringing the old one back. Really not that bad if this is the stock one with 310K on it, I'll gladly pay $220 for another 300K. On a side note, I always start my truck in neutral which is suppose to be easier on the starter from what I've been told, for what it's worth anyway. Just gonna keep driving and see how it does this week, I only live 2 blocks from work so if it doesn't start then it's not a huge deal. Get the part ordered and get her going the next day.

Are you sure it is not your battery getting weak in extreme cold?

    A group 24f is rates for 750.

I also wonder if your truck is "cold spec". Cold spec trucks came with heavy duty starters and a washer fluid warning light.

Wow that is a good price for an oem starter! Maybe im thinking of something else but i thought a toyota starter was quite a bit more than.that... i wouldnt think twice about buying one at that price.

It was pretty cold during elk season last year if I remeber right and got in the low teens, higher single digits and it didn't act like this. Airbag light never came on either...and at the time the ebrake light was still on I'm sure. I fixed the ebrake a month after I bought the truck and the light went off for a month or two but it's been on for year and a half, then all a sudden goes off again. Not to big of deal really but my OCD tells me otherwise lol.
On a side note the new 35 KM2s aired down to 8# and ICON 2.5 coilovers/ UCAS/FOX 2.0s did really good last weekend on a snow run. Mines the red taco, buddy has the white 97 SAS on 37s locked front and rear. No lockers for me yet, it's the only thing I have left to do. Thinking elocker axle swap in the rear and a Detroit limited slip in the front to get done by next year.
