So I want to do something to my truck that doesnt cost much to do and will help out in the long run, so far I have mounted a seat belt cutter/glass breaker I got from my brother in-law whos is in the Army. It is mounted to the driver side of the center console so both people in the front can get to it if need be.
I think now Im going to take a pointer from Shadow-Warrior and his FJ build and relocate all the breathers my truck has to a higher location and all so put a filter on it like he did. I think its a great cheap project that cant hurt. If you want to see what Im talking about look here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-builds/15090-raptor-shadow-warriors-fj-crusier-build.html

Nevermind, small things like relocating the trailer pin harness are good things to do, also I put some cabinet locks on the bed storage boxes which is pretty nice

I did my diff breather, you can look at my build (the link is in my sig), it is cheap and easy. Good if you plan on going through deep water. I did it because I was bored one day.
X2 I got a pair and they are pretty cheap and will probably come in handy one day. Honestly if you get LCA skids, a diff skid and sliders that is pretty solid protection until you get your lift and stuff figured out. I was going to go with full skids at first, but i thought about how much all that weight would make me sag down and I figured I would be scraping across everything. WIth a lift first you can make it over lots of stuff and the sliders will protect you from a lot. Another cheap thing you can do (i'm planning on doing it soon) is to reroute your exhaust to raise it up and give you a little more belly clearance. I've heard you can get it done at a good exhaust shop for less than $100

Lower Control Arm skids, but with proper wheeling techniques you shouldnt have to worry about banging them up to bad. Id say save up for sliders or some sort of lift, armor for the belly.

Lower control arm skids. Sorry kinda misread your post thought you meant like small mods compared to like lift, armor, etc.

A small handful of select mods.
I thought that the factory breather tip was pressurized for a reason. If you install a filter like that the diff is no longer pressurized. I wonder if that is an issue.
Reading was an optional class in HS? :p

Well I ripped my trailor plug off ages ago wheeling, I have each wire rapped so they wont mess with my lights cause that has happened to me before. As for the bed storage boxes, I dont use them for anything yet. I dont even remember how big or small they are off the top of my head.

I will have to look that up, I thought the whole reason for a breather was for air flow.

I have a 3 inch camberg lift on my truck, I will have to wash it and take pics of it and post them. Im only looking for something cheap to keep me from going crazy while not working.

    you could always do

    ammo box mod
rear diff breather using the fuel line and breather unions from toyota OEM parts
swing up and out of the way your 7pin
    trim down your mud flaps
organize your center console, i have a tactical flashlight mount in mine
mount a maglight on the side of your seat
    color match your grille

those are some very cheap mods

Well I took my mud flaps off after the first one got ripped off, and I ripped my 7pin plug off the first year i had the truck.
I havent been very nice to my truck besides fixing what I brake and still need, and doing normal oil changes and stuff like that, but it is the best work of art made from metal and plastic I have ever seen.
I have done stuff since i got it in 08, like Front bumper, winch, off-road lights, 3" Camburg lift, CB, gas can holder, tire gate tire carrier, and new radio.
Thats what I have done so far, I had to take some time from doing anything to it or I would have everything done I want.

Thank you, I took some time off from doing stuff to it so I could get some house stuff done, now I think its time to do some small things.

It is. The OEM design was pressurized because it let pressure in the diff blow off from heat, then close again to keep water from getting. So technically if you put it up high out of the way there would be no need for it to be pressurized. Nice set up the way you did it.

For anyone interested, I am balls deep in the V8 Z car build, fun! I know this is a pre-pull, but I just pulled the engine and have the motor mounts on the 406 SBC. Days off are awesome. Anyone else here into cars besides Taco's?

but with the one way valve on the stock breather, how is air supposed to get back into the differential once it cools down? Its forced to get sucked through the 3rd member or any gaps in seals along the axle?

We need something like the bat signal to call in jace when we need help
