I'm looking for advice from folks with more experience traveling in and through Colorado. I'm trying to plan a trip to take my wife and our son to spend 3-4 days in Colorado. We live in Kansas City and will probably stay in the eastern/central parts of the state. I'm looking for advice on which passes would be good for a beginner. we hope to be able to camp each night rather than stay in town.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Definitely do the Alpine Loop if it's clear.

Don't be fooled by our fires, the mountains have a crap load of snow (New 100 year record) so it will be awhile before most passes are/ will be opened.

Alright, check this website for posting from fellow 4x4 when trails/ passes are opened. You can also look at previous years to get an estimate for when things should be opened.

    http://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

    In general:
Alpine loop is clear middle of June
Passes to Telluride they try to Doze open by 4th of July but in 2016 it took a week or 2 longer as I recall.

Thanks for the route ideas guys! I jumped in on the CVT GB so I'm hoping to be able to use the RTT to camp in.
