I do have to tell you though, my truck is jealous and my bank account hates you for the thoughts you have put in my head.....

real quick question, what year and model donor vehicle would you say would be the best (ie: tundra, 4runner, sequoia)? I don't have emissions and I want to keep it auto.

It depends on what you are doing. I think any of the 1st gen Tundra 4.7s (00-06) would be a good choice. 00-02 will be the easiest, but the VVT-i engines will have more power. Neither option will be "easy".

ehhh.. It would be pretty fast if I was not running 35s. They dont really like running much over 80. They take a LOT of weight to balance.. Plus the clutch I have now doesnt like hard shifts and lots of revs. It gives in to the slip pretty fast. Ill probably have to swap to a stronger clutch with the S/C..... Good thing money grows on trees!!!

Basically, in my non oem engine swapping experiences, it is best to buy the full vehicle of the engine you want to swap. Just from looking around, it seems that Tundra, 4runner, and Sequoia are the better candidates, because of the 4wd that can come with the 4.7L in them. I just wanted to pick your brain a bit about what you thought would be the best candidate. I would be swapping in engine & components, trans, and t-case, or whatever combination worked out.

Oh I know it won't be easy, but I was just thinking by the time I replace my worn out 3.4, put on a SC and performance parts, rebuild trans and get new torque converter to handle the SC, why not just put a v8 in it! I had also thought about swapping to a diesel, but the 2uz seems like a better idea. And, since this is my last major build, I want to go big :D

The Tundra wiring matches the Tacoma wiring pretty closely. 4runner and Sequoia's are a little more advanced.

Always wanted a multi-mode tc in my truck, I think it could be a big selling point in the tacomas. I've often wondered why Toyota never offered it in the Tacomas when it's so similar to the 4Runner. Can't wait to see it in action, awesome work OP!!

I'm excited about the multi mode tcase. I'm having some issues with the wiring. I am trying to use a 99-00 tcase with the jshift pattern, and use a 01-02 ecu and electronic shift motor on the diff, over the vacuum version.

I've almost got it figured out though. The only reason is not in yet is because I need different drive dhsfts and exhaust.

It was in the 1st gen tech section up till a month or so ago. Enjoy. :D

The 99-00 and 01-02 mulit mode cases are the same case. V3F something.. How they are controlled is what changed. .

Basically 99-00 use the lever to control switches mounted on the t-case, and in 01-02 Toyota cheaped out and ditched the switches on the side of the case for 1 switch on the dash. Same basic operation, but the switch on the dash is a momentary switch, and I am using a normal on-off switch. Im having to make the switch go ON-OFF-ON-OFF to get the desired result.. So imagine switching from 4wd, to 2wd, to 4wd back to 2wd just to get to 2wd....

    Confused yet??

A few more goodies for the truck. (The SC is still on the shelf waiting for me to track down a few more parts.)

Ive struggled with the lower radiator hose since the beginning. I have had multiple hoses spliced together and they have all leaked.... Im hoping the will solve my problems....

Also picked up a set of Tundra 13WL calipers. I still need pads and rotors though...

I picked up this 00' limited cluster. I plan to combine it with my cluster. I really just want the multi mode display. anyway.. More to come as get time..

Its pretty much a 4wd light for the multi mode transfer case. It shows when the center diff has locked.

Well life has been CrAzY!!! my truck has been running pretty good. Ive been dealing (tolerating) with some issues.

    - Been getting a bit warm: Its been near 100* for the last few weeks. Running down the road has not been an issue, but sitting in the drive through with the AC on has proved to be a challenge. The engine temp slowly climb. I noted that the engine temp got to 230*+. Once the AC is turned off, the engine temps slowly come back down and settle around 205-210* Normal op temp is 185-205*. I have considered a few options, but not moved on anything yet (Been busy with my job). I am contemplating a 1" body lift to create some space around my engine. There is really know space for my fan to send the air it is pushing . It hits the engine and is deflected into the inner fenders, hood and skid plate. Another option I have been thinking about is getting another fan, and mounting it on the front of my radiator. My current fan is a single 16" spal slim line fan. It doesnt cover my whole radiator, and there is not much room for another.

    - I am also thinking about ditching the manual trans in favor of the a750, 5 speed auto. This would require a complete rewire, and a few more dollars. however, I am having some issues with the manual, so.. it maybe better in the long run.

The issues I am having with the manual are clutch related. The adapter plate i bought came with a flywheel. The flywheel is a modified 3.0 3vz-fe v6 flywheel. In the add it states that there are numerous clutch options. Well, that maybe so, but almost NONE of them are rated to handle 310 ft lbs at the crank. The ones that are, are not recommended for street use. My current clutch is doing ok I guess seeings how its only rated for 240 ft lbs at the flywheel, but... really its failing. Its skips and chatters across the flywheel when engaging, and slips under heavy acceleration... Ive checked around, and I am not really happy with any of the potential options....

I also sold the Supercharger... did a fair amount of reading and the more I learned, the less I wanted to deal with the tuning, or lack there of... got a few sweet guns out of the deal, so im happy.

I also have a fresher 4.7 V8 that im going to be swapping in once the heat breaks. 100k less miles, and hopefully zero valve noise..

Feel free to ask questions and make comments. Im open to advise as well...
