I think I've got it under control, but I really do appreciate the offer! Hopefully once this thing has all the bugs out, we can get together and take some poser picks with our trucks!

Small update. I finally got my transmission down. when I went to pull the torque converter out, it slid maybe 1/8inch and stopped. After about 5 minutes of wiggling and pulling, I finally got the converter out. This bearing was stuck on the snout of the converter. Im guessing it is suppose to be in the transmission pump... I didnt dig any further, I made the decision to go with the back up trans.

Spent a few hours getting the back up bolted up and in place. With 90% of the work done I went to move the shifter linkage to the new trans. Thats when disaster struck.. the 12mm nut holding the linkage wouldn't turn loose. Instead the stud broke.... que melt down, and a few days off from working on this thing.

Now that Im back, I think the easiest thing to do is tack weld the linkage to the shifter stud. I have to be sure not to overheat the small seal behind it, but this should work. Its either that, or take this transmission back down, and dig into the two transmissions and figure out which is easier to fix.... tack weld it is...

It's my curse. 3 small hard fought steps forward, 2 big steps back.

Good news is, in the one week my truck was functional, I managed to get it inspected. So I'm clear for a other year.

I assume you meant Hornet. I'm truly sorry, but while luck was distracted by you, I buttoned up my transmission. 6 qts of Toyota gold, I mean WS fluid and she's back... For now. I tack welded the shift lever to the shaft. If I ever have to do this again, I'll just grind it off.

Also, got my scangauge II working. Still not mounted yet, but soon. I used an x-ray and now it reads transmission temps. Which reminds me, my radiator is bit o. The small side... 200*~ on an 80* day.... also, my ITA temp is super high... I need to come up with a way to get non-negotiable bay air into the intake with out going through the wheel well. ( No splash shield, and 35s in the rain pump a lot of water).

I took the time to search for mounting options for.my scangauge. I found this thread, and man, this is the ticket!

And some frustrating news, the key amp won't pick the key up... It might be 1/2-3/4" away from the key. The picture is where it was suppose to mount. I have a plan, but it's a long shot. I'll post more on that once I get parts.

Went back to the salvage yard today in search of some more parts for my LBTs 3.4 swap. Anyway, I found a black steering wheel from a 99+ 4runner. So, I bought it.

Picked up the black steering column covers to match.

Awesome thread here...how did you swap the 4runner wheel into the Tacoma, I just bought a 99 4runner wheel/column/airbag all the way to the slip joint for my 99 Taco. Does all the wiring connect and airbag work, or did you have to swap the airbag also?

Two torques head screws, one on each side. Everything is plug an play with the exception of the cruise control switch. Some 01-02 are two wire, and 96-00 are 3 wire. The air bag connector is the same.

You don't need anything extra besides the wheel and airbag. You might want to swap over the turn signal and wiper controls too since the 4 spoke versions sit higher. 98-04 Tacoma all use the same plugs and play controls. 95-97 are a little different.

Champion radiators offer's a radiator for a 96-02 4runner. That's it. Obviously the inlet and outlet are on the wrong side for the 4.7. however, the fill neck also is an issue for my Tacoma. It needs to go to the driver side 3"s to clear some of the hood support structure.

However, as you can see, it is much larger than the 280zx radiator.

I finally got around to wrapping my left side down pipe, and cat. Hopefully this will cut down on floor board heat, and I'm sure the fuel and brake lines will be much happier...
