I've had that grill for 10 years. Finally pulled the trigger and went for it wish I would have done it 10 years ago.

IMG_20180406_142917459.jpg A few weeks ago we went Harlan. One of the fans was pushed into the radiator, and thus a small hole.

A little JB weld and removing the fan and we where back. IMG_20180407_183645157.jpg

Once home, I built a new fan shroud. Hopefully this will keep things cool.

Well... It's mid summer, and the "flap holes" where too small and the coolant temps would climb on the highway. I pulled the radiator back out and opened the whole way up. I took as much off the shroud as I dared. I had to ad some angled "flap stoppers" to prevent the pulleys from ripping them off.

Now, temps hand around 190 at idle with the Dakota digital fan controller cycling the fans. On the highway temps hang around 195. However, I'm a bit concerned that I still don't have enough cooling. When towing my rzr, vprobably 3,000lbs, temps hang around 205. Ambient temperatures have been in the mid 90s when towing. I feel like I could easily over power the cooling system by pushing harder with throttle.

Hey COMA.. I'm new to TW and I just bought my first 01' Taco 3.4l prerunner 2x4. I have been told that Gunney was the guy to see about getting good parts? My brake booster is failing on my taco and needs replacing. So my question Is, can you direct me on how I would get in touch with Gunney? Im trying not to spend $$$$ if I don't have to but I also don't want Chinese junk from ebay. Well I appreciate the help. Thanks bro.

Honestly, I haven't don't much to it. The ODO just tripped 168k.

I bought a set of 315 Cooper Discovery ST MAXX tires for it. They are so much nicer than the old worn out MTRs. They have a closer tread pattern for the highway... And if I'm honest, 98% of the miles on the MTRs are road miles. Hopefully these will last longer on the road.

Other than that, I have been dealing with an exhaust leak that I believe is coming from a misaligned v-band. Also, the T-case is leaking pretty good from the top, on the right side.

I'm north of Durham. It's not as special as you might think, but it's been fun 75% of the time.

    I'll take some soon.

So, Here we are again, with the same story... "My current radiator doesn't keep my engine cool in all situations".... So, I am finally moving the radiator forward.

I have talked to a few guys and help one of those come up with a setup that works for his 4.7 powered 4runner. I am using a radiator for a 77ish Nova from summit with a trimmed Ford Taurus Fan. The issue I am having is that with a stock style radiator, in low speed, high demand situations, the low profile Spal fans cant move enough air through the tight space. The answer seems to be I need a fan with more power. For the fan to have more power, it needs a bigger motor.. to fit a bigger motor, you need more room, and thus, the radiator must move forward.

This radiator is shorter, and narrower than the 1KZ radiator I was running. However, the 1KZ radiator was a single row (core). This Nova radiator is a 2 row. So, in theory, the it has more surface area to cool over. that, coupled with the big motor and blades on the Taurus fan, my days of running warm on the trail should be over.... and that is a good thing, because I want to spend more time on them.

Lower cross member of the core support removed. Also, the stock cross member for the skid plate has been removed, but the Trail-Gear bumper mount has previsions for that.

Here, you can see that the water outlet of the 2uz is long and will be the highest point of the cooling system... I plan to swap it out with a 3uz version.

This picture shows the challenges I face with the radiator cap.

Now you can see the space for air flow... not much, but more than before..
in an effort to prevent the engine accessories from touching the fan, I will be switching to a 3uz fan idler pulley. the 3uz to my knowledge doesnt use a mechanical fan, so this idler has a pulley made to the shaft. This eliminates the need to bolts, and leaves the snout shorter. hopefully the space gained (maybe 1") will prevent the engine from ever touching the fan...
