yea, the steering shaft is in the way of the stock manifold. I plan to cut and rotate the tube on the manifold so the exhaust will follow closer to the block and transmission. There is a 99 4runner in Clayton NC (Singtoe), He extended the pipe on his manifold, but that put the pipe right next to the fire wall. He then went with a 2 or 3" BL. I have had a BL before, and I dont want it back. I would really like to be able to run long tube headers, but there is not enough room.. Long tube headers are worth about 30hp... I guess I could have a custom set made, but yesh... $$$$$

I am going to run a "stock style" exhaust. 2" pipe from the engine to a Flowmaster y-pipe, then 2.5" pipe to a BAMuffler. After that I will be running a single 2.5" exhaust.I know what some of you are thinking... run duals, but after reading, and talking some exhaust guys. I think this is the best set up for stock manifolds...

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Toyota's truck engines tend to be designed for low end torque and smaller exhaust generally facilitates low end power.

Do it! - but get a donor vehicle.. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get a donor vehicle....

you and me both... I drove my truck across the yard the other night. It was awesome.. I wish I could have taken it out on the road.. But I need to bleed the clutch again, and build the exhaust...

has there been any cooling issues? i know it's a tight fit for the v8 swap's... also, what about the hood clearance? i know the tundra has a "tall" engine. i ask, because i'm also intrested in doing this. did you move the firewall back any?

I have not driven the truck yet, but the hood closes. I "massaged" the hood support to clear the plug for the MAF sensor on the air box. I have shut the hood and run my hand all over trying to find tight spots. I have layed under the truck and reached as far as I can up into the engine bay, but that was the only tight place. Its now got 1/4" or so. I could go more if needed, But I didnt want to dent my hood. I dont think it will be a problem since the air box is mounted to the body.

The cool thing about the Tundra/Sequoia 4.7L's oil pan is that it is shaped just like the 2.7L and 3.4L. Meaning it pits PERFECTLY down around the crossmemeber, and diff. (Tundras and Sequoias use the same front ends as Tacomas and 4runners, just wider (00-06)) I moved the engine back as far as I could (1-2"). I again massaged the fire wall around the rear of the right head. (knocked it back maybe 3/4"). You cant go too crazy in that spot because:

1- The oil pan wont let you go back too far
2- The A/C & heater core is behind the fire wall on that side. the drivers side has plenty of room. You dont want to bust either...

The radiator is an 81-83 280ZX 3 row "champion" alum. radiator. (Found on Ebay) I have a single "low profile" 16" spal fan. There is about 3"s between the fins on the radiator and the pulleys on the engine. The spal fan measures 2.5"s thick.

The front of the engine is TIGHT, but there is room. The only thing I dont like is my lower radiator hose. I had to use a few alum. bends to sneak it around the pulleys and clear everything. It just does tough the fan housing, only just though. I think it will be ok.

The heater hoses are cut down stock Tundra Hoses. The stock Tacoma heater control valve was resued in the stock spot.

    Frankenhose:

Been busy since Sunday. I keep knocking stuff off the list. I have 75% of the exhaust mocked up. This is my small muffler. Its hard to tell the sound right now because I have SOOOO many exhaust leaks, but once I get everything welded up the sound should be nice. I like what I think I hear...

A small update:Exhaust: Finished for now. I still need to run the tail pipe, but I am ready to drive my truck, and that little project will just have to wait. To be honest I am not really happy with how my first attempt at building an exhaust turned out, but its what I have. I will run it for a while and see how it goes.Problem: Now the engine wont rev past 3,000 rpm. This is a new issue that I have not delt with till last night. Its almost like a rev limiter. Heavy throttle will result in the engine starting to cut out at 2500 and flat lining at 3k. Light throttle ends with the rpm's fluttering right around 3k. The only thing that is changed is the fact that the exhausst is now finished, and the front o2 sensors are plugged in. Before lastnight the the engine would rev to 4k, no problem (I never tried to rev it higher). It maybe a fluke that the o2's where plugged in the same night the new rev limiter came to be, but I doubt it. I have no way of pulling codes at the moment. My cheap-o Ebay ODBII bluetooth adapter will not connect to my phone anymore.. I have been having issues with is for a while, but I guess it finally quite. Its was $14 sooo... yea.Anyway, I suspect a MAF issues. I am running a 03-04 4runner MAF (and intake) with a 02 Tundra ECU, so maybe there is a compatibility issue. Or maybe the MAF is bad, or maybe its another issue completely.. Im thinking out loud now.Updates, Pictures, and maybe a sound clip this weekend..

a Short video for you .

The engine is in limp mode, so it wont rev past 3,000 rpm. I am working on tracking down the cause, but really.. I have been out driving it sooo...

Also I am having some clutch issues. The master cyl I had, was not working, and then the one I bought this morning is leaking.. ughh.. I guess I need to call Toyota and get one coming.

Anyway, even though the engine only has a power bad of 2,000 rpm currently, it light years better, stronger and faster than my 3rz was any day. The BAMuffler sounds awesome! I love it. It turns the 35s with ease.

At the end of the video, you will see the effects of the limp mode rev limiter. My phone, and the whole truck shakes so hard when limiter comes on.

I fixed my MAF sensor. I had a wire in the wrong slot. Below you can see the plug. On the top left you should see a red wire with two silver dots. That wire feeds power to the MAF, o2s and VSV. That wire should be connected to the white wire with the red tracer on the bottom right of the plug. Once I moved the W/R wire over to the red one everything was golden. And let me tell you what... Having that extra 2500rpm is AMAZING!! Its been raining here all day, so the roads are a bit.... moist. :burnrubber:

Glad to hear you got it figured out. Now you can post a video of what it sounds like when everything is working.
