I will try and get some vidoe, but my phone really doent pick the sound up. If the window is slightly cracked, thats all you hear, and if the window is up, you dont hear anything till the engine is already screaming. Or I have the radio on...

But with that said here is a video I took last night. The video starts in 3rd gear, then an unltra sloppy shift into 4th. I would like to give you all a cool story as to why the shift is so crappy, but I just missed it.

That sounds pretty good to me. Didn't seem to take long to get to 80 either! Be careful on the skinny pedal or it could get expensive, lol!

Keep in mind I am running 35s w/ 4.56s. I would guess the speedo is slow, but I dont know how slow. At what my speedo says is 55 its turning just over 2k and running on the highway at what the speedo says is 65 the engine is turning 2300~

ughhh... My fuel pump died yesterday. I knew something was wrong when I pulled out of my driveway and the engine fell on its face. I pulled back in the driveway after a 15 minute ride trying to figure out what might be the deal. I shut it off and went on to my families with out it. When I got home, I tried to start the engine again. Nothing, just spinning. With this engine/ecu, when there is a failed crank the pump will run for 2 seconds after the key is released. That time I didn't hear the pump running. I pulled out my jumper wire and applied power to the fuel pump lead. zilch..
Off to Auto Zone I go! I went ahead and bought the v8 fuel pump. As you can tell it is a bit taller. The plug going to the pump was the same though. I am getting pretty good at dropping the tank down...

Wile I had it apart, I went on a bought some fittings. This should seal up my leak for good!

I was a bit weary of the auto zone pump, but it was $253 and has a LIFETIME warranty. I am running a auto zone pump in my 4runner. it has been in there since 2009..sooo...

I took my truck out of town to visit with some friends, over the past weekend. The truck did great. I was dealing with a leaky clutch master cylinder that made driving in traffic a bit tough, but other than that it did great. I used my new scan tool to view live data the whole time. The coolant never got above 190, and ran 185-187 99% of the time with the fan off.
I got home this afternoon and picked up my new Asian clutch master. Once I got it bleed and adjusted the clutch was awesome. No more jamming into gear or grinding.
On the way home coming up 85 to the 1st Oxford Exit, there was this mid 90s Rangers. The 1st of the rounded body styles. Anyway, I was running what my speedo said was 70mph. I was creeping by him when I noticed him speed up. Not sure what he was doing, but I speed up some so I could finish my pass. That's when he floored it. Well at least that's what I think he did, as I couldnt hear him over my truck. I just noticed him speed up.. Seeing how My clutch was having trouble releasing I just left it in 5th gear and started to roll into the throttle (I love that sound). That ranger started to slide back. I guess He let off, because he started to really drop back once his front bumper got to my rear tire. I slowed down to 70 again (was running 90, or so the speedo said) and he fell on back. About a mile later I see them ol square head lights coming. Again I just rolled into the throttle in 5th gear. I got a few lengths on him, then backed out to a speed the ranger could match, but not over come. Once I get to 80-85, those MT/Rs show off there size and get a little sketchy (One is nearly 15oz out of balance). Plus my OG steering rack and ball joints all have 145k on them, and get a little squirrely. After that he fell in behind a transfer truck, I moved over to the slow lane as my exit was coming up. In my rear view I see a car's head lights get blocked by something... Guess who's coming back again? Mr. Danger ranger has his head lights off and is sling-shotting the 18 wheeler (sling shot engaged). At this point, My exit is 500 yards away, so I just let him go. He comes buzzing a long with his head lights off till he gets beside me and turns them back on as if his truck was invisible before. I guess he is going to tell his buddies about how he raced some jacked up truck and won.. My truck is by no means a racecar, and I don't drive it as if it where. However, I wouldn't back down from a challenge. :D

Nice swap! $250 for a pump, WOW. Must be denso / OEM replacement. You can get a 190lph walboro for about $100 from URD. Guess you needed it ASAP.

    Awesome work on the truck.

Yea, Wanted to be able to take my truck out of town over the weekend. That morning I got up and bought the only pump I could find. I thought about The URD pump after I bought it.... Oh well.. Its only money right... I will make more tomorrow... :rolleyes:I have been driving the truck now for a few weeks. The engine has performed great. Mileage is a bit lower than I had hoped, but its not that bad (35s and 4.56 gears). Its right around what my 4cyl was getting, only 3x the power!!!!

Its been a while since I have been on here. I have not done much to my truck in the last month. I still need to plumb and wire rear o2 sensors and rework the transfer case shifter.

    We got a little snow.

My truck is doing good. I have a coolant leak somewhere. I am not sure where from, but I have not had much time to really look either.

What a great build. I read every page and write up on your tacoma. My friends and I work on muscle cars and see different swaps in those vehicles. We would never tackle anything like this. Can't wait to see more. Also amazing to me what mods tacoma owners have done to their trucks. Me just a urban wheeler.

Thanks man! I love this truck. Lots of ideas floating around for the future, but no time or money at the moment... :(

    Thank you!!

I did, a few years back, but I don't really like the styling. I like the engines though. Like I said above, I love my Tacoma, and would rather spend my money on it, than a truck payment.

You forgot about the manual. I would venture to say I am the only person running a Tundra 4.7L with a R150F in a 1st gen Tacoma that is street legal. Now, I could be wrong, but I don't know of any....

I worked on the T-case shifter the other day. The problem is with the engine and drive trains current position, the shifters where sitting about 2 or 3"s back from stock. Not a huge deal. Some slight work to the back edge of the shifter hole and it all went together. That was until the shifter console went on. In 2wd, there no problem. The issue came when it was time to get into 4wd. The shifter would go half way, then make contact with the plastic shifter console. This is what I did:

    This is how it started
    IMG_20140122_155603519_cea6a264a700e4f6ba052c7690dc89443544aa4a.jpg

I had a shifter from a push button 4wd L-N-H style transfer case. I cut it up so I could weld it per my needs:
    IMG_20140122_145017975_HDR_936c62d80e264a7a5d6fd103a7ffb43390b4bc7b.jpg

This is how it ended up.
    IMG_20140122_155635001_23794107697f2b3096931553042a63be83799a32.jpg

Please pardon the extra wires. Some are left over from a wiring job that is no longer in use, and the others are grounds running to manual switches for the High, and Lo radiator fan relays. They will be gone by this summer I hope.

The new shifter is almost perfect. I got everything welded up, and had all my stuff put away when I put the rubber boot over the shifters, then the shifter console. I made one last test run with the shifter through the ranges. Everything was perfect till I got to Lo. It goes into lo just fine, Put the reach on the shift lever is so far forward now that in Lo range, the shifter collapses the rubber boot. When you take your hand off the shifter the rubber boot shoves the shifter back into Neutral. Sigh... Oh well a project for another day. It want be hard to fix.

Anyway, Keep commenting, and asking questions!!! :D

A few notes, Yes I see the loose bolt, and the reason the shifter hole is black.. well. My truck was an auto, and when I went to the manual a few years back, I jacked the hole up with a sawsal. So I just cut the whole top of the transmission tunnel out and went to a junk yard and picked up a replacement. Not the best way of doing things, but you cant see it and it works... So don't hate.
