Thanks. I had my tradesman build quote configured with a ton of options but the base prices are close on both brands. Maria at Access has a build sheet already prepared for our trucks and is familiar with TW. It has each available option listed and is priced so you can build your shell out.

Maria was a pleasure to deal with and promptly replied to my questions. Her email is

I know all about Maria and the TW. You mentioned the cost diff. so was curious since it seemed significant. No worries....

Received my ARE DCU last week. Painted the rack black and insulated the interior. Set up the driver side as my kitchen for camping. Awning for it is in the mail.

Had to add my topper to the thread so I could get some ideas from the experts. The kitchen in driver side tool box is part of my plan for this ARE Toolmaster Topper. Well worth the 400+ mile drive and 600.00 price.

It was an option when buying it. After looking at it it looks like you could make one yourself and pop rivet it in place. Its held on with a couple sections of piano hinge and 2 lengths of small chain.

    Just the basics
I say go camping first to see if you actually need a shelf.
Go camping first to see if you even need a shelf. I originally thought about ordering one but the price was kinda steep. Personally I've never found a need for a shelf. Usually my table is set up right under the toolbox/kitchen. I can take out and put back things very easily and for me a shelf would be in the way.

Just got back from a 5,000-mile camping roadtrip and I will say, from our perspective, that a shelf might help with keeping an overstuffed compartment from spilling out every time you open the door after a bumpy ride. Mine doesn't have one, but after seeing StapleNut's I'm pretty sure I'll be jimmy rigging something like it for next time. As with everything else, YMMV.

I did have some stuff that would try to escape sometimes when I would open the door. Solved it with two cheap plastic cutting boards.

For those with the Leer DCU, what is the configuration of the fuse panel that comes with it?

This is a screen shot direct from the Tradesman Truck Tops website www tradesmantrucktops.com) regarding the shell height. All the posts I have reviewed here have indicated that many go with the 26" shell height. A few have opted for the 30" height. Based on the info below from their website, it shows a mini (Tacoma) short bed would be 24" high and the 26" high is for the full size trucks. For those that have ordered the Tradesman top and indicate a 26" height, is it really 26" high from the bed rail to the top of the shell? What is your actual interior height?

    ttt.jpg

Many thanks! Getting close to ordering.
