I am running a Utility cap and I plan to transform it in to a overland cap with a roof top tent.

Tavgoat aka Walt that's a sweet taco man!!!

I have a lot of questions so here's a start:

    1. 2016/17 taco fit for long bed?
    A. If no what's the lead time on this design ?
    2. Weight?
    3. How's the dust been?
    4. Any plans to be in CO ? (Would like to see in person prior to buying )

    Thanks in advance
    Patrick

    Hey Man!

    1. There is currently a model for the 2016/17 Tacoma long bed. There should be a shipment landing towards the end of this month. I was told there are slight differences in the 2nd gen and 3rd gen Tacoma bed for these units but I haven't seen that in person yet.

    2. The short bed version is about 135 lbs.

    3. The only dust that has gotten in is from having the sides and rear open at camp in Moab when it was windy.

    4. We will be camping in Telluride the week of the 18th as the fj summit is taking place in Ouray. We will be doing our own trail runs and stopping in at the event to say hi to all of our vendors. If you're in the area swing on by and take a look.

For anyone that is interested in the long bed canopy for the 2nd gen let me know. The one in these pics is available now for sale as a demo unit. We will have it on the truck while we are in Telluride during the fj summit that is taking place in Ouray the week of the 18th. Feel free to get ahold of me if you want to see it in person.

Sweet deal - very excited to hear there are some on the way
I should bring my FJ down with a for sale sign as I'm migrating from a nice turning radius To 1/4 mi turn radius w/long bed & canopy (shell). I've been to two summits and its super fun so have a blast. If I can swing down I will but doubtful - I'll send you some more questions on pm or email thanks for info !

I did finally find out the Load limits for the cover I have. 500#'s on top and 200#'s on each side for tool boxes. So that thing will hold anything I need it too.

I reached out previously on light weight aluminum contractors caps & found this ARE Diamond edition to be the meal ticket....Sliding side windows w/screens & double barn doors...with non opening tinted windows.. Really eliminated the paint to match problem......The roof rack is a bit pricey but the standard rack is available...

Looks like the Alu-Cab prices are posted on the website for TAV: http://www.tavllc.com/products

    $2799.95 for the 2nd & 3rd gen DCSB
    $2999.95 for the 2nd & 3rd gen DCLB

I'd be interested to hear what the weight of one of the Alu-Cab shells is and how it compares to the ones made by Caravan Campers:

    http://www.caravancamper.com/gallery/?t=tacoma

Caravan Campers are definitely more expensive, especially if you start adding on the options, but are rated for 2000lbs on the roof.

I've attached Caravan Camper's price list from last year

    Those caravan are expensive!
I think the Alu-Cab looks aesthetically better

I saw some AluCab weights but I don't remember where, let alone the exact numbers, but I remember thinking they were impressively light. Also, while Caravan, and the similar aluminum Tradesman tops, are undoubtedly good options compared to ARE or similar domestically manufactured commercial tops, from what I've seen in some YouTube videos the AluCab is far better engineered, using aluminum effectively for lower weight AND load capacity, with good seals and hardware on the lift gate and side doors. I'm tempted ...
