Commercial shells, especially on DCSB?

Here getting my shell installed and they can freight a shell anywhere. Adds to the cost but then you get exactly what you want.

That's the plan... It's insulated and has a roof vent to pull out the heat. Hoping to have time this week to build a basic platform

 

Can't wait to see the inside finished....How far does the tool box go on the inside? Do you have plans in mind yet?

 

Tool box goes in same as the outside panel: 12"

Hey @Toynado ... as I may have mentioned in a previous post, I stopped by Access a year ago, talked with the owner, got a quote, but decided to wait. You build - plus Iggy's pop up are pretty impressive. Where do you live and/or work ... would you be willing to show it some time? I'm super impressed with the way it turned out. Out at my folks place helping them out and taking every chance to get a look at how it came out. So stoked!

So i just saved pictures of your topper.... i think i must have. Whats the weight?

 

They didn't actually weight it but around 200lbs. Could have been lighter but mine is insulated and has a inner aluminum skin. Still it is light

I bought this commercial canopy off Craigslist for $200. Its made by Brandfx and was use by Verizon on their utility trucks. I've built it out with a bed, shelving, lights, and a power inverter. Its pretty heavy duty and has been great for solo camping trips with the dog.

 

What a steal....Have any idea what it weighs? Is your Taco 4 or 6 cyl?

 

I would guess that it's 250-300lbs. It's not light. But it's very heavy duty. The truck is a 4cyl with 260k and it does just fine. It's quite too heave now, but I don't really mind much.

 

Yup.. I can see its real commercial duty...It looks like an insert with a floor? - Are you in PA?

 

Do the commercial caps(as opposed to a well fitted glass cap) make much difference on the highway? I had one on my diesel silverado and it felt like there may have been a small sail attached so I would think on a smaller truck this would be even more noticeable.

 

Prior to my Tacoma, I had an 8 cyl. 2X4 Ram 8ft. bed...It had a Leer fiberglass cap...You would not believe the difference in how the truck performed with the cap on, verses the cap off.....Now with the Tacoma which is a 4 cyl. I am very conscience of weight....I am planning a A.R.E aluminum DCU commercial barn door cap wedge style, for camping & road trips and calculate every once of weight....

 

You can see my trucks camper on an earlier post in this thread. I had to get it repaired due to the shoddy workmanship. It's been at the manufacturer for about two weeks now. I can say positively there's a measurable difference, my MPG's have gone up about 1.5. I'm also running without any of my normal gear that I keep in there, recovery gear, water jug, etc. I went and weighed my truck without all of this stuff, Im at 4800 lb's. I'm going to get it weighed again when I get it back on. I'm gonna guess that the cap and all of my other crap is gonna add close to 500 lb's. My guess is I lose so much MPG due to the cap going above the roof line.
