I have a 23 yo son and a 27 yo daughter. I actually listen to them when they talk. My son wants a Nissan GTR. My daughter drives a new Tundra.
Neither are interested in a Tacoma and wouldn't be caught dead in a Ford. Why? Because they are actually educated on reliability and durability. My daughter test drove a Ford F150 before she bought the Tundra. She laughed at it.

    Fixed it for you...

Exciting as in getting to be an intimate friend with your local Ford service department? Sound exciting.

And wtf is it with anyone “hip” throwing out the grandpa crap? Most “grandpas” probably have more disposable income (and balls) than five “hipsters”. Sip your frap in your skinny jeans and leave the logic to others.

Tell you what, buy that “cool” Ranger, mod the engine and then, like every on every F150 forum, let us know how “cool” that ecoboost is when your on the third engine/transmission.
Cool fades when reality sets in.

Ranger was a midsize? Pretty sure not.

Also, if you dig deep into the ranger, a lot were rebadged Mazda B series, meaning not a ranger. I owed one and put Deavers, spindles, and 32s on it. Global i4 Mazda engine. I would assume that is the powertrain still going strong, the pushrod version and the edge was a POS and see none of them in Michigan anymore. More 1st gen Tacoma’s then mini rangers that survived if you subtract the Mazda B series.

    Holly thread resurrection Batman! ;)

Technically, you are correct. I think. Ranger was Ford's "compact" from 1983 thru 2011, when it was discontinued.

    From the link below...

For the 1983 model year, the Ford Ranger nameplate was applied to a model range, as Ford introduced its own compact pickup truck, replacing the 1972-1982 Ford Courier in North America. In global markets, Ford began use of the Ranger nameplate in 1998 in place of Courier, with all compact trucks named Ranger by 2006.

Been down the road of aftermarket parts and road tuning induction based engines. Fords reputation with turbos and realibility are near worst in industry. I would wait and see what issues pop up, based on the F150 ecoboost, most those owners had issues, finding the 5.0 coyote engine was the only survivor.

When I was a young man and had balls, I also was less educated in time value of money and applied business statistics. When we studied the optimization of the EPA CAFE car model portfolio, I traded in my balls for money velocition knowledge. This caused me to weigh in asset value retention, Toyota wins that metric. A metric a young man with balls knows little about.

And some Ford Badged pickups came with Mazda powertrains. Global i4.

If memory serves me Ford owned a chunk of Mazda so it would make sense if they did use them

When I met my ex fiance back in the 90s she had a Ford Probe, I recall that being a rebadged Mazda 626 or MX-6 or something like that.

Lol, yeah. Fudged that word from too many beers today. Meant this... sort of...
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocity_of_money
In short, I run a market making trade bot on crypto exchanges. Hunting for max trades/transactions per day. Also using similar optimization for portfolio weighting as automotive companies use to stay compliant within CAFE standards. Little bit of excel solver add-in and a cool app, JMP Pro. Point was Car manufactures have a ton of constraints to work around other than engineering and physics, like CAFE, and it effects the models and engine decisions. The coolness factor has a very small impact to whatever we were talking about before, lol.

    Domain is taken though...darn.
